This restaurant has a corner location in busy Hillcrest at the intersection of 5th and University Avenues. If you are traveling by car, no worry. There is validated parking under the restaurant - entrance off 5th Avenue. The menu has many choices including many dishes for vegetarian. In addition to the main menu there is another menu with very traditional... More

The food at this place is awesome, but let me warn you about the spicy factor. I ordered ginger chicken and the waiter asked how hot I wanted it on a scale of 1 to 10. I love spicy hot so I said 8. It was all but inedible. After consultaing with a local I concluded that a 3 would... More

I have enjoyed the food on two visits to Vietnam. The food here was authentically Vietnamese: fresh and tasty. Portions were substantial. I enjoyed the mini fried pancakes stuffed with chicken to start and then beef cooked with lemon grass for mains. Service was efficient and friendly. There were nice bottles of wine available at very good price. I would... More

The food here is great, especially the Pho. The atmosphere is more elegant than many Asian restaurants, a titch pricier too but worth it. The service is friendly and efficient. Bonus for late night diners, they are open until 3 AM.

Saigon on Fifth is a real find; a quiet, elegant restaurant tucked out of the way near the western edge of Balboa Park, away from the hustle and bustle of Hillcrest. We have enjoyed their fine cuisine and excellent service on several visits, and they never fail to please. My wife seems to be addicted to the Saigon Love Boat,... More

One of our favorite restaurants and my favorite dishes: Tamarin soup and creamy basil fish. The soup is tangy but not spicy, and full of flavorful vegetables. You can add tofu (my choice) or chicken or pork to this soup. The sea bass moist and tender is served in a tasty creamy sauce flavored with fresh basil and accompanied by... More

When to dinner at the Saigon on Fifth with friends to celebrate their birthdays. We all ordered and shared several dishes. The Sea Bass was excellent. My favorite was the 360 Beef. Service was excellent. If you have not tried Vietnamese food go to Saigon on Fifth first.

Every dish they serve is always delicious. Service is very good. It's close to the Hillcrest Landmark movie theater. One important extra - they validate parking in the gated bank building in Hillcrest.

Saigon on Fifth street is an interesting and rather genuine Vietnamese restaurant in San Diego. I wouldn't know genuine from ersatz but a Vietnamese guide we met a day later, vouched for its authenticity. There are many things on the regular menu, some of which our waiter advised us against. Apparently he didn't think women of a certain age would... More
