The smell is what brought me here. I was picking up my lunch and smelled something so delicious. It was the smell of fresh waffle cones. My friends and I just had to stop. The price is great and the ice cream is so fresh....We wanted more. We just wish there was chocolate in the end of the cone so it didn’t drip out.More
In the normal heights area and looking for a sweet treat? Stop by Mariposa and fulfill all of your ice cream desires with many flavors to choose from. They are closed Monday and Tuesday so keep this in mind.
I always enjoy coming to Mariposa with its funky 60’s Beatlemania environment! The ice cream is rich, luscious, and made right here! By far, my favorite is rum raisin ($3/single scoop). With every lick, the taste and smell of rum percolates through my sinuses and...pickles my noggin! The chewiness of the plump rum-soaked raisins contrast exquisitely with the smooth but slightly gritty homemade texture of the ice cream. As the brain freeze ascends through my pharynx and infects my medulla oblongata, my eyes roll back and whiten while the rest of me shivers and convulses in a torrential orgasm of taste. I just want to come again and again! The dairy taste is so fresh, bold, and clean, I might as well be sucking milk directly from the udder of a cow! My other favorites include Mexican chocolate and white chocolate raspberry ripple ($5/double scoop) but whatever other flavors I try, it is always fantastic! You can’t go wrong here! Do it!More
I've been here a couple times and you can't beat $3 for a giant scoop of ice cream. Of course it helps that the ice cream is delicious! The strawberry is my favorite because it doesn't have that fake strawberry taste. The cookies is cream...is also very good. They have tables inside and outside if you want to sit down.More
Mariposa is the old fashioned ice cream parlor your grandparents would recognize. Real ice cream, family made, on the premises. They have monthly specials, sundays, floats, malts, all delicious. Parking is a challenge.
I tried the peanut butter and jelly ice cream and the mexican chocolate flavors they were amazing! best part is that they are made there. so delish!
The ice cream was soooo good, and it was so tough to pick among the flavors. I settled on a classic hot fudge sundae and my husband and two girls loved theirs as much as I did. The cookie dough ice cream had huge chunks...of cookie dough in it. My five year old especially appreciated the tiny kids table and rainbow chairs. Note that the shop was closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. We had a false start on Wednesday but it was absolutely worth going back.More
WOW. Delicious home made creamy ice cream. Reasonable price with friendly people working. They had a lot of very unique flavors. I had the Heath toffee. My husband had coffee and Mexican chocolate. He said the coffee flavor was great and he's an ice cream...expert!!!! The tiny place was packed the night we went, which tells a lot. The only bad thing is parking on Adams Avenue is quite challenging.More
Mariposa's is more than great ice cream made LOCALLY. This family run institution means so much to the community. It's a gathering place where the locals and visitors mingle in line. As you move forward, there is so much legitimate Beatle's memorabilia that you get...an intimate look into the owner's soul. Mariposa's is a treasure...the ice cream is rich, creamy and DELICIOUS. Try the hot fudge sundaes :-) It's an original, one of a kind, true ice cream parlor. YOU'LL LOVE IT!More
Went to the Oceanside stand but it was so good I had to review! I had the Mexican chocolate in a waffle cone--delish! Great ice cream and friendly staff.
We needed one last taste of California before ending our family vacation. I was looking for a unique place and close to San Diego Airport. This is by far the best ice cream I have ever tasted. The store is very small, but the friendliness...of the staff and the taste of the ice cream is huge! We had the Mexican vanilla, Mexican chocolate and the peanut butter fudge, all were very good and smooth. They are reasonably priced, $3.00 for 1 scoop, which I find to be a great deal for something homemade. Take a chance away from the well known chains and I promise you won't be disappointed. They are closed on Mon & Tues, Wed-Sat they do not open until 1pm and 2pm on Sun, so plan your visit accordingly.More
This place is the bees knees. They hand make the ice cream and it is delicious. No matte the flavor, it is always rich and fantastic. Anytime I'm in San Diego, I stop here. The owners are friendly and its so great.
This ice cream is creamy, fresh tasting, friendly service!! Awesome deliciousness! I mixed a chocolate with a cherry flavored ice cream with hot fudge and it was super scrumptious!! There are many flavors and a quaint little place in Kensington. We sat outside and watched...the world go by in ice cream bliss. Stop in and enjoy!More
We stopped in to meet a friend here while on a family trip from Wisconsin, so I feel well qualified to evaluate dairy products. The flavors are delicious and there are so many to choose from. I'm not,a good decision maker so I went halvsies...and had half of a scoop of coffee and the other toffee. Out of three children and three adults we unanimously decided it measured up to Wisconsin standards. It is a small shop but there are a few small tables inside with a little kids table and then a couple tables outside. I wish I'd tried their homemade baked waffle cones, but that will have to wait for our next trip to sunny San Diego.More
