The steak was excellent and very tasty. The sides we had - beans, potato salad, and spicy slaw - were very mediocre. They have picnic tables outside, and are able to fill orders very quickly. It was cold the night we were there, so we did take out rather than sit outside.

Best Texas-style BBQ in San Diego! I’ve tried other bbq places around here and GOBYA is by far my favorite. Service/Ambiance: Our party of 4 went at 5pm on a Wednesday and there was no line to order at all, though I hear this place gets jam-packed over the weekends. Once you enter, you order at the cashier in the back corner and they call when your order is ready. It was my first time here and the lady up front was patient and helpful with my questions, and offered food/size suggestions. Food came out very quickly. Plenty of benches outside that could seat 6 to 8 people, maybe even 10 in some tables. The “indoor” section has tables, benches, booths, and seats at the bar. The whole place gives you a laid-back, barbecue with friends kind of ambiance. Parking: Street parking only but our party got lucky with multiple spots open close by. Food: Price listed is per pound for all meats and you can opt to make it a sandwich. There’s a kids menu, bar food options, and even vegan options. You can choose from different sauces ranging from sweet to spicy (though the spicy wasn’t really that spicy for me but still had good flavor). My husband and I shared this order and it was the perfect amount for us. -1/2 lb brisket ($15.50): MUST GET. They serve half fatty and half lean and it’s the perfect amount of each. Sooo tender and juicy! -1/4 lb turkey ($7.75): surprisingly very good! Thin cuts of turkey served with lots of flavor. -3/4 lb beef rib ($25.50): fall-off-the-bone good. We were lucky that there were still some left for us to order! -1/4 lb tri tip ($8): a little chewier, it was just okay for me but my husband liked the flavor. Served with their chimichurri sauce. -Green beans: I asked for recs for popular sides and it was between this and Mac and Cheese. These were just ehhh for me, I would get Mac and cheese next time. Overall, I’m so glad we finally found a good Texas-style barbecue joint here in San Diego! There were other things offered that I would love to try next time. I’d also want to try out their happy hour from 3pm-5pm during the weekdays.

What a great place. The workers were so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. It had a great atmosphere. Nothing better than eating BBQ on the patio with a nice breeze.

OK, what's the deal? I finally find this Fantastic BBQ only blocks from my house, and like the Q Junkie I am, I get hooked on everything on the menu. For the last 18 months I go at least once a week for my Q fix. Then one day the Pig Pushermen are gone, vanished, leaving a lot filled with empty tables & benches where I use to sit stuffing my face on the Best Pulled Pork & Tri-Tip sandwiches in San Diego, The big BBQ smokers now sit cold & lifeless...The Heat is gone and I'm so sad & confused. Where have the Q Boys gone?...What done happened? There's a rumor now floating in the air where there used to be the punget smell of BBQ that Grand Ole BBQ Y Asado has closed only temporarily to remodel & expand. OK, that's all well & good, but in the past 4+ months I've seen no movement...no worker Bee's swarming around to make things new & better. The " Anticipation Is Getting Me Down"... as Carly Simon once sang. Yo, Q Boys!....What's the DealeO?? Stop jerkin my heart & taste buds around and get your pig butts back to 30th Street....We hardly knew Ye before you left us Porkless. Just gimme some kind of sign....something we can hang on too...Hope for the future... Pleeeze!

Come casual and prepare to dig in to some great food. You can smell the BBQ on the days they are open--Wed-Saturday 12 noon to sell out; Dinner 6pm to sell out; and on Sundays they only serve lunch. I had the pulled pork, the Peruvian white beans and the coleslaw. You can buy by the pound or buy sandwiches. There were 3 of us so we bought a pound and split everything. Smoked lamb, hot links, ribs and other Central Texas type stuff. Enjoy. I did

This family style BBQ "joint" has outstanding BBQ, especially for San Diego. I lived in Memphis and grew up in Texas, so I know good BBQ. They're open from 12 til. Till they run out of food. There's no real restaurant, just picnick tables with family style seating. The menu is handwritten on a big roll of paper. Everything I've had is great but l loved the beef ribs. Just seasoned with salt and pepper with chimichurri sauce available. On sundays they have an Argentina menu and no pork ribs.

We stumbled across Grand Ole bbq by accident and then looked it up on Facebook and Trip Advisor and saw the great reviews. The reviews were spot on! The brisket, pulled pork and turkey were incredibly good. The sides were plentiful and really good (potato salad and cole slaw). We were greeted by Tod who was so nice and helpful, and bar service was provided by Christian who was fun and covered the whole place. The atmosphere is casual and all seating was open air although some was covered. We went early and got in line to wait for it to open. When the food is gone, it’s gone.

This place was the best BBQ I have had in San Diego so far. The food was great, bringing in your own beer was fun, and the atmosphere with the live band made it an even better experience. The only reason I give this place a 4 is because I believe there should be people telling you what food is running out before it is completely gone. We made a long line and where not able to try the ribs which were the reason why I went there in the first place. The brisket and pulled pork were outstanding.

While talking with a friend over lunch at UTC, going over our recent trip to Austin and the great BBQ that we always have when there. The gentleman sitting next to me apologized as he interrupted and said there are a couple great places here in San Diego that rival Texas BBQ. I asked him how he could evaluate what good BBQ is and, he said he is a BBQ contest judge, going all over the states judging BBQ contests. With two new barbecue places to try, I selected Grand Ole BBQ y Asado as a the place to try first. I went on July 4, and was pleasantly surprised to see their Texas style broilers out front where the briskets, ribs, sausages, and other meats are cooked. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a nice long line waiting to order. Several BBQ joints in Texas close when they sell out of their food, as does the Grand Ole BBQ, a good sign my opinion. I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich and a sausage, and my wife ordered a quarter pound of sliced brisket with three pork ribs. Our sides were there regular coleslaw and Peruvian white beans. We enjoyed all of our items with the exception that the sliced brisket was a little dry and without much flavor. Another great thing about this place, is that you can bring your own beer and drinks onto their patio to have with your BBQ. As there is one other BBQ place we will be trying (name being withheld until I can compare them), I will go back to this one as I did enjoy the food and atmosphere as it reminded me a lot of Texas barbecue.

Smoked Texas BBQ in San Diego. As a native Texan, now living in San Diego, I have longed for Texas style BBQ without having to fly back to Texas. I found it! This place offers the best BBQ, smoked to perfection. Yes, the lines can be long and yes, they will run out of selected meats but it's worth the wait. I have eaten hear many times and I have learned, arrive early to get choice meats. I usually arrive 30-40 minutes before opening. They allow you to bring your own beverage (B.Y.O.B.). Having a couple of beers while waiting in line w/ friends helps pass the time. The brisket and beef rib bone are my favorite. The meat is sold by the pound and can get pricey, but work the cost. The side dishes, bean, coleslaw, and potato salad are all very good. I highly recommend this place...see you in line.

I am not a fan of standing in line only to reach the counter and told they just ran out of turkey. The place had only been open for 45 minutes. Not the best first impression. However base on the lines and the reviews I’m willing to give this place another try. Hopefully I don’t leave hungry

If you love pure BBQ delight, this is the place! Simply delicious and everything you could want in BBQ. We went on a Saturday, just after they opened and the line was not too long, the food was absolutely the best BBQ I have found yet. Tender, juicy, smokey and satisfying - and I am very picky when it comes to BBQ so believe me, this place has the best you will find, but get there early, they do sell out fast!

Being a BBQ addict and traveled to TX, TN,SC, KC, & OK too find the “goods” , I might have found it. Not in an obvious location and at 1:15 just 1&1/4 hours after opening they were out of 2/3 of their meat choices. I was unhappy for me but I guess happy for them The ribs and pulled pork were great and their mild and hot BBQ sauces were exceptional So go and try it out. Just go after I’ve been there.

We went on a Sunday, which is Argentina day. The place is pretty informal: picnic tables on concrete surrounded by a chain-link fence. Didn’t look very special until I smelled the air – what a wonderful smoked meat smell! I was hooked after the first breath. We got there a little before noon, when it opens, and found a line about 100 people already formed. The sign said they close when they sell-out of food so I got a little nervous but we were good. They started cutting things off the menu shortly after we ordered so come early. We ordered the tri-tip sandwiches, one salmon, one chorizo, one lamb shoulder and sides of potato salad and a side of beans. Way too much food for 4 people but we wanted to try everything. You have a choice of spicy BBQ sauce or sweet BBQ sauce and/or chimichurri. Let me cut to the chase: everything was GREAT! How can everything be so good? My favorite was the tri-tip sandwich and the salmon (I was surprised how good it was) but the lamb was great as was everything else. Both the BBQ sauces were great but I liked the spicy a little better. Let it drip on the salmon and beans and fingers so that you can lick it off. End of the day, if you remotely like BBQ, this is a must visit! We took home the left-overs and it tasted as good the second day as the first! They don’t sell alcohol but there is a liquor store across the street and a micro-brewery around the corner where you can buy growlers, if that is your thing. Also, next door is an ice cream place in case you need dessert or you want sparking water for dinner.
