The sign outside this restaurant tries to tell you they were rated the best Mexican restaurant. I think not. We went there for lunch and were very disappointed. Food could not be more mediocre. Menus were dirty and so was the bathroom. Not good.

La Pinata is the oldest Mexican restaurant in San Diego and one of the best. Although it's located just outside the touristy Old Town State Park, it is much more a local place. In addition to the usual Southern California Mexican cuisine, it also offers a bunch of house specialties. Concentrate on those, especially the chile verde and the albondigas.... More

Awesome Dia de los Muertos at this charming resturant. Oldest in Old Town and beloved by generations of San Diegans. Great spot for fun, casual family dining. Do not miss when in Old Town San Diego.

Started out with a rude hostess and the waitress wasn't much better. The help didn't seem interested in waiting on the customers. We asked to share a dinner but the waitress didn't bring two dishes. We had to asked for two dishes and table settings. The waitress appeared upset with our request. The meal was OK but nothing to brag... More

Need pinatas, they've got them. And great food (they're fajitas are bomb). They're parking in the back and just outside of the bulk of old town so easily accessible. Check them out.

We have enjoyed La Piñata for many years. We visited with a large family group. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating with colorful south of the border decor. Our drink and food orders were taken rapidly. We enjoyed fajitas, tostadas, chimichangas; and, enchiladas. The food was plentiful and delicious. Only downside. The restaurant is not staffed adequately for a... More

I've eaten here a number of times and it's proven to be a consistently good, authentic, Mexican-style restaurant. The service is good and they make good margaritas. I also enjoy the two music performers even though they're not the best musicians.

We came here after finding other restaurants nearby already filled up for a very early dinner. The decor is super cute and fun, the kids loved it, and the staff was very friendly. Sadly, none of us liked our meals. Meat was dry and the food was not very flavorful. Reading the other reviews, I hope the chef just had... More
