I've always enjoyed going to Soltan Banoo but hadn't been in a long while. A group of us were there last night and it was fantastic! There were five in our group and everyone loved their meal (three hadn't been there before). We ordered a variety of their rice dishes (the special, the zaresh polo, loubiah polo) and it was... Friends and I were going to a nearby theater and went here for an early dinner. They had been to the restaurant previously but this was my first trip. I will definitely return. I had one of the best tasting dishes I have ever had in my life - their Zereshk Polo. I had it with the lamb shank and... More

I had a wonderful dinner with spiced dishes and original recipes. Pomegranate lentil soup, potato pancakes, rice with fruits, and the Persian ice cream with rose water and pomegranate ice cream are the top dishes for me. Service was excellent and overall superb. Go experience that delicious cuisine

I had passed by this restaurant many times and never had tried it. I am really glad that a group of friends suggested we go for lunch. The decor is warm and inviting, the menu filled with dishes, ingredients and spices unknown to me....all delicious and affordable. The service was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Portions are ample, and all the... More

I was excited to try this place as the menu was quite a fusion with a Persian base in a lovely patio type dining area. The food was ok, a bit disappointing. Tried the pomegranate soup...unique flavor but not to my taste. I cant remember the 2 dishes we got as entrees but they were both bland and too sweet.... More

A popular local spot, with exotic dishes, efficient service and interesting decor. The menu has an enticing range of options including vegetables, chicken and lamb -- served with aromatic rice and spicy dipping sauces. A terrific dining adventure. Immediate street parking can be challenging -- but free parking is available in this quiet neighborhood, so plan to stroll a block... More

Intrigued by the menu, many items with pomegranate, we stopped in for dinner. We had the lamb kabobs which were delicious. Three large pieces of lamb on the bone, beautifully seasoned with jasmine Rice and grilled veggies. To top it off, we ordered the pomegranate ice cream. Delicious, tart, and not too sweet. The open air patio is a wonderful... More

My husband and I have had the pleasure of eating at Soltan Banoo for years whether it was for lunch or dinner. We actually started going there when it was Café Caspian across the street. It is one of our “have to” eating places when we are visiting San Diego. We have always loved the University Heights area, but parking... More

We like trying new restaurants and some friends joined us and their from Iran, so we gave this place a try. Note: Arrive early for this neighborhood is very busy and parking minimal. On arrival we found a nice little store front restaurant with nice Persian decor. We ordered the kabob combo plate with the spicy rice and pomegranate soup.... More

I was really encouraged by all the good reviews on this place, but I came away disappointed and am in no hurry to go back. I'd probably give this place 2.5 stars if 1/2 ratings were allowed. Maybe I'm just not a Persian food fan. They take reservations via Open Table - which is a plus. Love the University Heights... More
