Cafe 222 was recommended by several people for breakfast. It is a funky place with both indoor and outdoor seating. The food was fabulous! Try Joe's Special Frittata that had everything, including the kitchen sink. It was wonderful!

Great food and quick service. I try to come here every time I am in San Diego. They have quite the crowd on the weekend, for very good reason!

Group had banana peanut butter stuffed french toast, cornmeal waffles and granola waffle. Sides of sausage patties and turkey bacon were also had. Everything was delicious and very well presented. Very small spot so expect to wait, but well worth it! Very deserving of the accolades they have received. The french toast was a large portion of great flavors combined... More

We arrived at a busy time (Sunday AM), but the receptionist was very accommodating. The prices are not cheap, but the food was delicious and well worth it. The Blueberry Cornbread Waffle is wonderful, especially with real maple syrup (extra cost!). Delicious biscuits. We liked it so much we came back the next morning. If you're a breakfast lover, this... More

Once you figure out how to get into the place, you find it was worth effort. This is not a fancy, high dollar place. It's local diner with a great breakfast. The waffles were soon tasty. Our server was the best-attentive and friendly. The food came quick. We'll be back for breakfast again.

This is just a little place on the corner, but it's a really fun atmosphere, and the food was really good too, and the prices were good.

Description
Cafe 222 has been the local dining institution for nearly 25 years in San Diego.
This quirky-corner eatery has become famous from it's many appearances on the
Food Network and for the owner who from time-to-time can be found wearing a waffle on her head.

This shoebox-size of a restaurant has plenty of seating, offers indoor, street side patio dining as well as an upper garden patio area. Dogs and kids are welcome with well-behaved parents.

Reservations are not accepted but if there is a wait to get in, it moves quickly and the staff
passes out banana bread and coffee to those in line to make the wait more pleasant.
