If you're in a rush and don't mind ordering at the bar, sneak past the line and head straight for the bar. There may be a line there but it will most likely be smaller than the one going around the corner into the parking lot. Another thing you can do is order to-go ahead of time and just walk... More

Phil's BBQ is known for its amazing tasting food, but unfortunately, both locations are ALWAYS extremely crowded with super long wait times to get your food. The ribs just fall off the bone and are very tasty. If you don't mind a long wait for your food, then I would recommend giving this place a try.

This place was overcrowded, we had to stay in a line to get in but it is all for a reason, the food! This was the best bbq ribs I ever had. I ordered chicken too which was also great. But the ribs were not of this world.

Okay, I'm a vegetarian who is off the wagon. This is the place to NOT be a vegetarian. My name is Philip, so I grabbed my Phillip's screwdriver and headed on over but couldn't get in because the LINES ARE SO LONG! That's a good thing if you're a carnivore. This place does get rave reviews.

I am not a BBQ person but I loved loved loved this food! Not pricey, was wonderful... Must Try! Everything was finger licking good, to the home made salads to the great BBQ sauce.

Phil's has got to have the absolute best onion rings I've tasted. My favorite meal is the El Toro with deli sliced Tri-tip. The prices are good for such amazing food and king size portions. I make a point to visit here any time I'm in San Diego.

We stayed in a hotel around the corner and each day we passed by there was a line around the building. We looked online and saw excellent reviews. So of course that means we had to try it. Although there was a long line they got the orders relatively quick while still maintaining a good level of courtesy and friendliness.... More

This place is always the best barbecue restaurant in town!! Nothing better for ribs and good hometown cooking. They get packed so prepare to wait even late at night but it's worth it.

Line is constantly forming and moving. Have some patience, it'll take a while. Cart selling beer and free water for those in line is a bonus. Menus posted on your way in, plan out what to order before you get indoors. Place order, pick a table, grab plates, utensils, and drinks and wait for your food to be done. Pick... More

For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).
