We first experienced Phil's in Santee. The line was wrapped around the building and thought this must be good. Well, it was not good, it was Excellent. We by passed the line by going straight to the bar. The bartenders were SO FRIENDLY, big screens everywhere and we actually ate our delicious ribs right at the bar. Now we have... More

Had a pulled pork breakfast burrito with a Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Stout prior to a Sunday morning flight to Boston. I usually regret airport food, and this selection worried me. I was nicely surprised that the food was very tasty, and combined with the craft beer, made a great start for a long travel day. The staff were very... More

The concierge at our hotel recommended Phil's, so we gave it a try. There was a line at 3:30 in the afternoon, but it went quickly. I had the Chickless Dinner (no bones) with steamed veggies. The veggies were perfectly tender. I had the bbq sauce put right on the chicken, my husband, who had the 1/2 chicken, had it... More

heeccck yah!!! This place is legit! The lines are long but it goes fast when you're with friends and chit chatting. If it's your first time, you get a sticker at the front of the line! woo hooo! The tri tip was really saucey which I didn't like too much. I suppose you can ask for less sauce. The beef... More

For the price you get a lot of food. Wife and I had the tickler lunches. The sausage and chicken were tasteful and portion size was very adequate. My only regret was that Phil's BBQ sauce is the sweet variety. I prefer the tang insets of Texas BBQ. I would still eat here while passing through the San Diego airport.

Best ribs in the county. Popular, and it deserves to be. I think their baby back ribs are amongst the best in the US, it's just a shame you can't get their fabulous cornbread unless you submit a catering order with at least one days notice. It's as good as the BBQ! The new Rancho Bernardo location is a real... More

This place is great for a family of even a couple to eat dinner. If you love BBQ then this place is a place to try. We had the chicken and the ribs and it was all very good. Their onion rings are really big too. Order extra dipping sauce if you like extra BBQ sauce to dip into. I've... More

This place has some magical experience. Had the ribs and giant onion rings. A good tip is to take a walk after you go to phill's bbq. But need to mention that even when it was VERY CROWDED... it did not last 5 minutes to have my lunch in my table... a lot of line but, after 10min i was... More

Description
For the past 17 years, BBQ lovers across San Diego County have turned to restaurateur Phil Pace to satisfy a singular craving: mesquite-grilled baby back ribs, beef ribs, chicken and sandwiches. Serving thousands of customers a day from a diverse clientele of skateboarders to Bentleys, Phil has built his foundation on consistency, quality, freshness, and friendly service. "We thrive on providing each guest with the 'Phil's Experience', which basically comes down to organized chaos," laughs owner Phil Pace. "The biggest reason behind our success is our loyal customers who have supported us and waited in line for a taste of BBQ for the past fifteen years. "Since opening its doors in San Diego in 1998, Phil's BBQ has served over one million pounds of BBQ sauce (enough to fill Shamu's tank).
