Minh Ky is one of those undiscovered restaurants in San Diego. It is Chinese food the way it should taste. Reasonable prices.

Because TripAdvisor and Yelp rated Minh Ky Restaurant on El Cajon Blvd, in San Diego well, we decided to give it a try. The 3 block area on El Cajon Blvd has a smattering of small Vietnamese businesses. Minh Ky Restaurant was located at the...corner of a “L” shape mini strip mall. Parking spaces were very limited. The restaurant was quite packed around lunchtime. There were around 20 tables inside. When we left, there was a queue of two parties out the door. For lunch, we tried one of their chalkboard special, honey walnut shrimp. We also ordered roast duck on rice and seafood chow mein with crispy noodles. A bit too much mayo on the honey walnut shrimp for my liking. Also the walnuts were cold as were the shrimps. As for the duck entree, the duck skins weren’t crispy or aromatic, but duck meat was juicy. However you don’t get too many pieces of duck (less than 10). The seafood chow mein used the Vietnamese noodles and contained napa cabbage, thinly sliced carrots & broccoli florets. Seafood consisted of slices of fish cake, white fish ball, squid, shrimp, and artificial crab meat. Hot tea (tea bags in hot water) was extra. Overall impression, the foods barely made average in taste and were sloppily prepared. Because of the neighborhood, lack of parking, limited cramped seating, quality of the food, made this experience forgettable.More

I ordered wanton Noodle Soup. The dumplimgs were excellent and delicate. But the noodles were the crowning point. Not overdone to the point of becoming melted jello, they were not too soft and the constituency was perfect. The broth is not too salty and the...MSG is not dominating. Fast service. This is your go to "hole-in-the-wall" place where excellent food is to be had. The duck over rice is also excellent. Do not order the porridge, though. This was disappointing as it was tasteless and hardly any flavor.More

The menu is comprehensive, to say the least. It covers a wide variety of Asian dishes, the servings are very generous (sharing a dish is definitely recommended), and the dishes that we ordered were excellent. Be prepared to wait a little while for a table...and be prepared for fast service.More

We eat here every time we’re in town. We’re often the only non-Asian guests here. The food is simple, authentic and delicious. The prices are amazingly reasonable. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Best Asian restaurant with very affordable prices! The noodle soups are huge and delicious. Other dishes are also very good. The place is small and parking lot is small and busy.

We revisited this eatery after several years’ absence, and found everything to be as delicious + inexpensive as before :)). The enormous menu features mostly Chinese style dishes that are very tasty & well prepared... the soups, seafood, noodle, stir fry, etc all were scrumptious......as with many excellent Asian food places, the decor is simple, with the focus on serving yummy eats. The service was polite, friendly, and efficient as well ... it’s easy to get here and really worthwhile to visit! Enjoy one of our favorite San Diego dining spots :))More

Love their combination fried rice. Have been many times and liked all the dishes I tried, too many to recall. The restaurant is a hole in the wall but service is good. Usually get take out, fast and easy super fresh!

San Diego is lacking in quality Chinese restaurants in the mid city area. We have amazing Vietnamese, Thai, Sushi, etc but for some reason the Chinese restaurants (other than dim sum) are just not great. Anyway, last night our family tried Minh Ky for takeout...and was pleasantly surprised. The crispy noodles were good, the orange chicken excellent, and the fried rice with bbque chicken very tasty. My daughter also enjoyed her beef and broccoli very much - it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We were sad they didn't have General Tso chicken as its our favorite. However, the menu is extensive and should satisfy most anyone. Portions were large and the food prices quite cheap. It's not amazing Chinese food but solid flavors were there and all in all, it was a very good value.More

Took my mom and sister to this restaurant last week and we all enjoyed it. I had the Wonton soup and my mom had the Chicken egg noodle soup with extra veggies, this just hit the spot.. Only issue that I had was that they...don't give you enough lemons, so mom and I had to bring a couple from home the last time we went.More

Even though this restaurant is tucked away in what seemed like little Vietnam in El Cajon, the variety of food was amazing. We had different types of porridge, soups, flat and egg noodles. Affordable price. Nothing fancy. This is where Asians go to eat.
