In the heart of San Diego's Haight. It's a good place for a good breakfast for not much bucks. Six more characters.

When my husband and I travel, we always like to go to places where the locals eat. Well, this place definitely fits the bill! We went in on a busy Saturday morning and immediately loved the place. Just looking at all the crazy stuff hanging on the walls and ceiling was worth the trip. Judy the beauty was on duty... More

Excellent local restaurant. With delicious food in large portions, friendly staff and clients. The layout of the counter encourages customers to have conversations with other patrons - if you feel like it.

The Big Kitchen in Southpark, San Diego was recommended to us by L. and J. who had moved here from Rochester and know the owner Judy from back there. So, in 2009 we went there for the first time, and since then we have been coming back every year when we visit from Germany. The breakfast is delicious, the best... More

This is a San Diego neighborhood institution for good reason. The somewhat limited menu is a classic. The portions are large and everything is well prepared. Judy Forman, the beauty sometimes on duty is a warm welcoming and worldly owner. The staff is hospitable to you and the various local characters. The period decor is advanced dorm room. And, of... You have three choices for dining: outside, at the coffee bar, or other tables/booths. Service is like family- not overly fast, but nice and the staff seems happy. The food is great. We had the roasted garlic frittata and the turkey sandwich. But he were tasty. The turkey sandwich came with potato salad which they ran out of. Instead of... More

Big Kitchen is a South Park institution. Owner Judy has created the most atmospheric of spots. Nooks & crannies packed with tables. Every inch of wall is covered with a history lesson of photos, paintings, and mementos. Friendly, neighborhood staff. Large portions of tasty dishes. It's an experience to drive for.

Dropped in for a late breakfast. I had Rudy's Huevos Rancheros which was delicious and huge. No need to eat lunch. Hubby had eggs, bacon, and a huge pancake. He was very happy. Sitting around the counter were a few locals who started up a polite and fun conversation with everybody in the room. I love friendly places like this.... More

This place was a breakfast standby when I moved to San Diego 22 years ago, and it's still going strong, having survived the neighborhood's transition from edgy to hip and gentrified. It still has its hippie vibe, but the hipsters love it as much as their parents did, with huge delicious breakfasts served with a smile. The dining room has... More
