Following a stream of people heading for the Baja Lobster Grill, we were diverted to Berta's, which is right by the entrance. And we are so glad we did! The dishes range from all over the Spanish-speaking world, obviously with a strong steer towards Mexican...and Central American food. My tortilla was fine and my wife's mango salad was superb. The prices were low, the beer and wine list is very good, but it has to be said that service was friendly but on the slow side. Still, I think we made the right choice and I recommend you stop here tooMore
My partner and I had just started exploring Old town when we got hungry. He suggested we go to Berta's and I'm glad he did because it was my kind of place. There weren't too many people there and there were plenty of delicious sounding...options on the menu. We sat outside on the patio and were attended to by a woman we soon learned was Berta herself. We chatted a bit and ordered our food, which was divine. Everything was clearly made from scratch, fairly portioned (though I would've loved to have more than a scoop of rice with my entree) and bursting with flavor. I wish I could remember the name of the dish I got but I can say with certainty that the piña colada I had there was the best I've had in my entire life, and that's my drink of choice so I've had many. We ended the meal with an orange flavored semolina pudding topped with a wine sauce. I'd never had anything like it before and will admit that this may just be a matter of personal taste but I would've liked if the sauce was on the side (delicious as it was) simply because the quantity on the plate overshadowed the pudding itself, which had a pleasantly delicate flavour that cooled and 'cleansed' our mouths. Overall, it was a great culinary experience and I'd go back to try the other items on the menu!More
I sought out this restaurant because I had eaten here before while visiting.
I could not remember what I had previously, just that I really, really liked it.
I was not disappointed. I had the lamb with salad. I'm a lamb fan, so particular. This...plate did not let me down. Delicious. If I still lived there, I would try everything on the menu. It's not as flashy as the large restaurant in back of it, but well worth it for the discerning palate.More
Had the Honduran seafood soup, one of the specials. Sooo much seafood in the soup! Loads of fish, shrimp, mussels, and clams in a non-spicy creamy tomato stock and bananas - have never had bananas in soup but they worked very well and were quite...tasty! Must try the tomatillo salsa with the tortillas as well.More
Went with a varied and well travelled group. Berta’s had something for everyone. South American, Central American, African and Spanish, we all had our favorites. Service was at a leisurely pace that was appropriate. Food was well presented and prepared. Worth the visit! Reserved parking...next door in a crowded tourist zone was a godsend.More
We went to the Old Town Historic Park and looked for lunch somewhere outside the typical touristy Mexican places. We found Berta’s and didn’t regret it: they have dishes from all over Latin America e.g Honduras style fish, food from Chile, Colombia or Peru. Everything...home made. They do have a weekly specials and a lunch menu. Recommend!More
