The service is the best. Beautiful view over a little man-made lake. Great ambience. There are some nice outside tables also but inside tables have great view. We've been going here for many many years. They have a nice light-eaters menu. I especially enjoy the trout. This location out of business but we go to the La Mesa, CA location... More

Stayed across the street at the Wyndham Bayside so thought we would try it ! It was very busy but not much wait time. Also has a short order side to take with you or sit outside . Very good fish and large variety to choose from.

You can't go wrong for eating spots in San Diego and this one was spot on. Right on the waterfront and a little more expensive than the usual restaurant but on balance worth it. Clam chowder to start for all of us, then crab salad, seafood combo and shrimp pasta for mains, all washed down with as much home made... More

This was service with a smile AND great food! The menu had something for everyone in our family dinner party - from a large Salmon Rueben (yummm!) to seafood salads to my seafood sampler - halibut, salmon and flounder - blackenend with aspargus and mashed red potatoes - delicious and fresh! We made a reservation and got seated at a... More

Dear Bren: "it's been there for a while for a reason" is a most wonderful comment, thank you! We are celebrating our 70th and last anniversary on San Diego's waterfront as the Port of San Diego is kicking us out of our historic location. We will strive to serve our valued guests with the freshest seafood and attentive service until... More

This is one of the best views on the bay while enjoying a meal, and the restaurant is not going to be there a long time due a pending end of lease at this location. I enjoyed their fried fish and cole slaw. If you get a coupon from the Tourist magazine 101 Things to do in San Diego the... More

Dear Jerry: Your review is the type that TripAdvisor readers appreciate most; informative, objective and not overly opinionated. We appreciate you dining with us and sending in your comments. Mama Ghio's recipes for the fish batter and chowder have been Anthony's favorites for decades. Glad you enjoyed them! Regards. More

It is a shame that the pier commission has decided to not renew one of San Diegos premier fish houses on the bay. We stepped back in time to a simpler time when we were given a table by the window with a perfect view of the bay. As I looked around the restaurant, I was taken back by the... More

Thank you for both the kind thoughts and positive comments. Sadly the Port Commissioners have little respect for history and the companies that have made the Port what it is today. It's all about the most $$$$. Anthony's had planned a 12 million dollar renovation to update the facility but instead the Port went for a 20 plus million two... More

Ate dinner here 3 nights in a row because the food and atmosphere was good. Wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and really seem to enjoy their job. Happy hour prices were pretty good. Only thing: for standard drinks, different bartenders make them differently. Should be the same at all times.

Dear Tracie: what a nice compliment! Dining with us 3 nights in a row when San Diego has so many restaurant choices! Thank You! I appreciate the heads up on the variation in the cocktails, I'll talk to the bartenders. As you well know everyone loves to put their personal touch on the things they do. Thank again. Regards. For the first time we tried the squid steaks, an Anthony's original. they were very tasty. All our food came warm, and pretty quick. They also had somene there taking pictures at the table you could buy for $15 if you wanted. Good food and nice View.

Dear Peggy: It must be adventurous diner season, this is the 4th comment on trying squid steaks this week. So glad to read you enjoyed it. Along with squid steak Anthony's was the first San Diego restaurant to introduce and popularize Sand Dabs, Sculpin, Baquetta, Shark, Tutuava, Calamari, and many other items over the last 70 years. Thank you so... More

Good food, reasonable prices, great location. Its not fancy, but I had been at the beach all day and was specifically avoiding "fancy."

gofishanthonys, Owner at Anthony's Fish Grotto, responded to this review

Since you were enjoying 'patio seating' you dined at the Fishette, our quick service outdoor option at our downtown location. It was designed for just the type of occasion you described - a little tired after the beach or sightseeing along the bay but still in need of a good, fresh, well priced seafood meal. Thanks for stopping by and... More

Anthony's Fish Grotto's was established in 1946 by Mama Catherine Ghio. It set and continues to set the standard for fresh seafood dining in San Diego. Mama believed in letting the freshness show through and not using overwrought and fussy preparations. Fresh seafood simply prepared.
The waterfront Anthony's sits atop piling over San Diego Bay. The views and sunsets are spectacular. The large dining room can accommodate families and large groups and the Lounge/bar area is perfect for that more intimate dining experience.
The menu features an array of seasonal fresh catches along with a multitude of favorites from Fish n Chips to Lobster Tails. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options are available.
