I was on vacation visiting family in San Diego and stumbled on this restaurant. It had the best catfish & jumbo shrimp I've ever had, not to mention the house slaw mm good. The waitress was very professional & very knowledgeable of the menu, a plus. If your ever in San Diego or a current resident you have got to... More

This restaurant was recommended by our shuttle driver on the way from the airport. We had a great meal with great service in a restaurant that had been in business for 70 years. It is sad to note that the restaurant was closing 4 days after our visit. We understand that the reason for closing was that the city would... More

What a shame this place has been forced to close. It has been around for 70 years and we went on the penultimate night and had a delicious fish meal .

We just had our last lunch at Anthony's Fish Grotto. How sad, what great memories as we would dock up at the pir and come for lunch. We look forward to having more good food at your LaMesa location.

The food and service here is outstanding. Have the clam chowder. This location is closing permanently but I was told by the staff there is another location in San Diego. Check it out, I don't think you will be disappointed. I went for both appetizers 1 day and lunch the next just because of the closure

A 70 year old family run restaurant with excellent food. We ate dinner Jan.31,2017 the last night the ocean front restaurant was open. It is excellent! So sad the Port Authorities want to rearrange the water frontage and take this down. This particular restaurant is the original. There is one other open in the area. The oyster stew and crab... I never thought the food was great here, but the staff and the views were worth every penny. The lease ran out and Anthony's is closed. Plans are to tear it down and replace it with several food eateries....new two story decking to improve the views. We look forward to the change and hope the new venues offer great food... More

Thank you for dining with us. Sadly the restaurant replacing us is not know for great food. As a matter of fact Anthony's is higher rated on all the web rating sites. By the way we are not closed yet, the closing date is Tuesday Jan 31, 2017 at the end of the evening. In contrast to your comments, over... More

Sorry to say that this would be our last time at this location since come the 31st they will permanently close. Very sad since we have been coming for 37 years. Always love the atmosphere, service & especially the food. We shared like always what we ordered last night. A cup of clam chowder was excellent as usually. Got stuffed... More

Carla, thank you for joining the 50,000 guests that have come this month to celebrate one last time at Anthony's while also mourning the needless loss of a San Diego restaurant icon. I'm so pleased to see you'll be joining us at our beautiful La Mesa location in the future. Regards. More

I read this location was being closed so thought we might try it since we were visiting the area. We went for Sunday brunch. We were there when they opened the doors and were seated fairly quickly at a large window table. My husband has family in the seafood business on the Gulf Coast, but we found there were questions... Dear Vicki - comments like yours are the reason we have been and continue to be successful after 70 years in the highly competitive restaurant industry. The Port of San Diego is one of those all to common place government agencies that have little respect for the input of the local citizens and tradition and history. I'm glad you had... More

Description
Anthony's Fish Grotto's was established in 1946 by Mama Catherine Ghio. It set and continues to set the standard for fresh seafood dining in San Diego. Mama believed in letting the freshness show through and not using overwrought and fussy preparations. Fresh seafood simply prepared.
The waterfront Anthony's sits atop piling over San Diego Bay. The views and sunsets are spectacular. The large dining room can accommodate families and large groups and the Lounge/bar area is perfect for that more intimate dining experience.
The menu features an array of seasonal fresh catches along with a multitude of favorites from Fish n Chips to Lobster Tails. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options are available.
