Margarita to go back for!

My sister, son and I went and were pleasantly surprised. She had a Groupon. We had the blackberry/roasted jalepeno margarita and shrimp tacos. The were bar none some of the best tacos I have ever had. Street tacos to be sure, but the grilled shrimp was cooked perfectly and the crema sauce was... read more

We stopped by strictly by chance and were so glad we found this little place. We loved the decor, and the happy hour menu was very reasonably priced. My nachos had wonderfully-spiced pork, beans, and cheese, (I choose not to have the sour cream and pico) and were beautiful as well as delicious.

We loved this place! Were driving around at noon on Sunday looking for a place to have brunch and noticed Barrio Star's sign for "Mexican soul food". There were no waiters--you order at the cash register and get a number to put on the table so they know where to bring the food when it comes out of the kitchen.... More

This used to be our favorite restaurant for tacos Tuesday whenever we visit San Diego. Unfortunately when we visit this time, the restaurant has turned into a self serve fast food place. The margaritas were watered down and the food is cold. We were very disappointed and have strike this off our list for future visits.

We enjoyed Barrio Star, probably because we walked to the rear to a booth, away from the noisy communal front area. Order your food and drink at the entry counter and it's all delivered by cheerful staff. We enjoyed our quesadilla & guacamole (really good!) and fish taco and shrimp taco. Prices range from $3.75 to $4 for tacos; entrees... More

This is a Mexican restaurant with a twist, not your typical Mexican food but still very good and with healthy options. I usually walked there because parking in the area sometimes is not easy, if driving I would recommend to park west of fourth avenue I had luck finding a spot there usually when driving. The margaritas are good but... More

The food is good but it is Mexican food a la hipster. The service is always very good. The servers are great. They have a little sidewalk dining if you seek to eat your lunch in the sun as well. Did I mention they have a bar? I recommend this place. Very cute decor, nice people, good and healthy food.

The menu claims that they serve "Mexican Soul Food," which is an insult to both because the food is neither. You will find more authentic Mexican food at Chili's and more authentic Soul food at KFC. I ordered the chips and guacamole, both of which tasted like they came out of a bag or bucket, probably from Costco. I left... More

Good service and friendly staff. Variety of Mexican food and desserts. The Margaritas were good. I loved the decorations.

Okay - this is NOT your ordinary Mexican place. From the chorizo tacos to the spiced cucumbers and the Jalapeno margaritas - you just have to go to have a fun time and great easts.
