The staff was very pleasant. Restaurant nice and clean. Food was very tasty and fresh. We had the lunch specials (Curry Salmon and Thai Rice). The prices are very reasonable. Personal story: We stumbled upon this restaurant while charging our car and noticed many homeless people living downtown on the streets unfortunately. Just be careful! It also was a bit desolate not sure why.

Probably not a restaurant that you would walk into when on the street...unless you knew how good the food was...notice that there are no bad reviews..my experience was simple, just a hot pot of wonton soup...with several shrimp and lots of chicken...but best of all the vegetables were fresh and crisp..taste was perfect for soup..will be back for more extensive meal

Tried this place because of the reviews. Liked the decor, service was good. Food okay. Ordered chicken sate and there was definitely something wrong with the chicken—rubbery (I’m hoping too long in marinade? Really weird. Drunken noodles okay; not much taste. Cashew chicken was good. Cream cheese wontons with chili sauce—yummy.

I am travelling for business alone and wanted a quiet meal by myself after a tiring day. Thotsakan looked like a reasonable place with a chilled atmosphere. Barely had I started my meal when a waiter came over with the check. He was reasonably polite but I noticed he did not do this to any couples of groups who were eating at the same time as me - I was clearly being rushed to finish and vacate my seat. I might understand this if I were taking a large table that could be occupied by a group, but I was not, and I had just as much right to finish my meal as one couple who had just arrived and were waiting to be seated. (And who subsequently were seated by another group who had leisurely finished their meals before I could choke down my food and leave.) The curry itself was fine but I would not come back - by myself or with friends or colleagues.

We ordered some things with tofu and vegetables, and they arrived cold for dinner. Upon request, it was reheated, but even the rice was not fresh. Tofu was also stale.

After a day of sightseeing, we were looking for Thai food and the reviews for this restaurant were good. We walked from near Petco Stadium to the restaurant. The decor was tasteful, the music wasn’t too loud, and we were greeted and welcomed immediately. My husband ordered the crispy duck and I had broccoli with chicken. Both were excellent. The food was served quickly with fresh ingredients. There was only one server but he managed the room easily. He was professional and friendly. We would definitely choose this restaurant again.

I stopped in on a Monday evening and it was totally empty. I had my baby with me and we were well taken care of. I ordered shrimp pad Thai and it came out quickly and was delicious. A few more people came as I was finishing, but I had a great experience!

Well, I’ll start with the server. VERY patient, calm and a pleasure to interact with. The food *tasted* great. It was what happened after. We all had really bad indigestion and regretted the meal. It could be what we ordered: Drunken Noodles, Green Curry Chicken and the Cream Cheese Wontons.

Whenever I am in a big city for business, I always go out for Thai for dinner because I can’t get good Thai where I live. I definitely got my fix at Thotsakan. The small “cup” of Tom Kha soup (see picture) came in a medium-sized bowl for only $5. It was delicious and could easily have been my entire meal. I also got the eggplant entree. All of the entrees and noodle dishes cone with a large bowl of jasmine rice. I requested a spice level of “6” on a scale of 1 to 10. It was not very spicy at all, but chili sauce & red pepper paste is available to ratchet up the heat. The eggplant was beautifully done (I started eating before I remembered to take a pic!) and equally tasty. My only small complaint was that the rice was cold. The decor was pleasing. There was music playing intermittently but not too loud. I went on a Thursday at 6:00 pm. The place was nearly empty. In fact, there were only 2 or 3 tables occupied (including mine) the whole time I was there. I doubt there is ever a wait on the weekday evenings. I’m sure it’s busier at lunch since it is downtown. Definitely recommend for good food, reasonable prices, appealing decor and low-key ambiance. I would recommend going with someone to share as the portions are very generous or just plan to take leftovers for lunch the next day. It’s probably not the very best Thai in San Diego, but it satisfied my craving for Thai in a very good way.

We had a business marketing lunch with 6 people. The place was busy but we were seated within 5 minutes. The food was fresh, hot and arrived within 15 minutes. I had the pumpkin curry which was amazing and I would recommend it.

I went for lunch and tried one of their many lunch specials which included vegetables, tofu, egg roll, soup and small salad. My lunch special had plenty of food, it was flavorful and moderately priced. The service was very good and so if you don't have a lot of time for lunch you can probably get in and out quickly. I was part of a large group and we all agreed that the food was flavorful and that we would not hesitate to go back again.

I had takeout so I can only comment on the food. Pad thai was my favorite. In fact, it was very good. Nice flavor combo. The yellow curry was a little on the runny side but had nice flavor. Lots of vegetables. Beans were great. Pad see iw was on the dry side. Not my favorite, but the shrimp were great.

Nice decor, music, ambiance, quick pleasant service, well priced. The food was decent, but compared to my own neighborhood Thai place, the portions were small and not as attractive or good. It's nice they offer brown rice. We ordered a Cashew chicken entree -- '4' on a scale of 1-10 spiciness -- it was making my eyes water and I was having to guzzle water! I'd give it 3.5 for food, 4 for everything else. It strikes a nice balance of casual sit-down, not too casual, not too 'fine dining'. Located within walking distance of the San Diego Symphony and Gaslamp. If you found this review useful, please click the HELPFUL button. Thanks. :)

Very good Thai place in downtown San Diego. Food quality is good and price is very decent. Gets crowded over weekend.

We had a very late lunch and the joint was empty. A young guy who barely spoke english took care of us. Super attentive and fast. We had one of those hot soups with tofu in them, lemon glazed chicken over crisp kale and lean cuts of beef bathed in a very light sweet and sour sauce over all kinds of grated fresh vegetables. All this was accompanied by fresh sticky rice. We really rigged the variety of fresh clean flavors from the dishes. Not expensive at all. We ate and ate because they serve rather large portions but you don't even feel it!
