Full disclosure: this was not the restaurant we set out to dine at, but we were both pretty pleased that the fates conspired to bring us to Steamy Piggy.
After a short wait at the door, we were shown to a small table on the...patio. It was a warm day, but we were at least out of the sun and able to enjoy the fresh air and ambiance of the space.
Menus are accessed via the QR code on the table, and while their menu is pretty small, they do have some inspired options.
I knew I wanted a rice dish, so went with the Bulgogi bowl ($11.50). My husband opted for the Spicy Ramen ($13.50) and we decided to share the Bulgogi Roll ($9.50). We rounded out our order with a couple of Thai Iced Teas.
Everything is served on disposable (and I hope, eco-friendly) dishware. The Bulgogi Roll came out first - it's basically a bulgogi/scallion pancake burrito concoction, with a melty white cheese pulling everything together. I honestly didn't love the roll - the cheese was a bit off-putting for me - but my husband enjoyed it enough to finish off both halves.
The entrees came out pretty quickly after that, and I did enjoy the bulgogi bowl - it was much better (and maybe more traditional) than the roll. The rice was a tiny bit too dry for my liking, but the beef was marinated and tasty, and it was tender.
My husband enjoyed his spicy ramen, though I don't think it was quite spicy enough for him. I'm still amazed that he ordered a bowl of hot soup in the middle of summer. He sat there sweating as he slurped noodles and downed sauce. He did say it wasn't his favorite bowl of ramen ever, but it at least had good flavor.
The service was good - two waiters that were attentive without being overbearing - while we were there, though there was a couple that arrived as we were finishing up that were (loudly) complaining that they hadn't been helped. In the staff's defense, the waiter did stop by after they were seated, but the woman rather rudely shoo'd him away.
I'm sure we'll be back, I'd like to sample their chili wontons and those cute bao that are pictured all over the place.More
