Based on the kind reviews I was expecting so much more...small, less than spotless worn out interior with plastic plants and mediocre food. It's hard to ruin a good dumpling but these are tasteless, especially the dough. 150 USD later the 3 of us were unimpressed and still hungry.

Came here with another young family for Saturday night dinner with reservations. We ordered almost everything on the menu and everything was tasty. If you are looking for traditional Taiwanese, Korean or whatever authentic Asian food, this is not your place. This place is more of a fusion hip place - if you are open minded about that, give it a try!

We met my cousin's daughter and her hubby at this restaurant and we all wanted to check it out. No reservations so we were a party of 9 including one toddler so we ordered two of each entree. The outdoor dining is spacious so we had plenty of room. We ordered a variety of dishes like chili wontons, Xiao loong bao, pineapple fried rice, chicken wings which were tasty and had a kick to it, shrimp dumplings, shanghai bok choy, beef chow fun, chive dumplings. All was good and plenty to share. Parking can be a problem as the lot can be full

Who knows if the food is good. We were never seated. We joined the wait list as a party of five. We were given the choice to eat outside but it was 51 degrees and we had a toddler, so we said we would wait for an inside table. 45 minutes later we watched as parties of three and four were seated ahead of us. The wait list tablet shows who’s next and how many in the party. Multiple times a party of 3 or 4, lower on the wait list, was seated ahead of us. Finally we asked which table we were waiting for and they said the next table for four! What???? All the four seat tables had just been seated. How long a wait we asked, don’t know they said. Ok. They don’t seat parties of 5 inside. Just say so. If you are a large party (>4) go elsewhere.

As a food snob, I'm often guilty of ignoring fusion offerings. In most cases, the food is prepared by someone who understand neither of the two original cuisines. Despite its hipster appeal, Steamy Piggy offers authentic and very good original dishes and very good fusion offerings. Xiaolongbao, Shanghainese soup dumplings, has been hot recently. It's not difficult to find a restaurant with this dish, but extremely difficult to find one that serves it well. The soup dumplings here were very good - which is the highest praise possible outside of Ding Tai Fun. We ordered a bok choy, an extremely simple dish with the vegetable cooked in oil and garlic. So many restaurants get fussy with this dish. Here, it's simply cooked and delicious. Other dishes were equally well done, including the pork belly ramen (Japanese). The Bulgogi roll, made with beef (Korean) and scallion pancakes (Chinese) were an eye opener, and cemented their fusion credentials. Hats off from a grumpy Boomer.

While in the area looking for furniture (see review of My Budget Furniture) my son and I went to Steamy Piggy for a late lunch. He has been to the Convoy Street area for many meals and knew of the excellent Asian food available. Steamy Piggy was on his list so off we went. This place serves some terrific food. We selected for our lunch a Happy Hour Bar Flight (piggy bao, bulgogi bao and a chicken bao), an order of soup dumplings and an order of BBQ Pork Baozi. The first items to come our of the kitchen were the Pork Baozi. The buns were so fluffy and the texture was prefect. The filling of the BBQ pork was full of flavor and each bite was taste bud happiness. We then were served the trio of Bao and each one was excellent, flavorful, bun done just right. We ended with the soup dumplings and again were impressed by the talent of the chef in the kitchen. Hot and steamy it was a perfect ending to our late lunch. We will be back for sure the next time I come down to San Diego for a visit.

My kids love this place. It has indoor and outdoor seating and dog-friendly. The bulgogi rice bowl and ramen are the favorites. There are quite a few other tasty items on the menu. Depending on staff availability, the service can be fast or a bit slower however the quality of the food has always been consistent to us.

I was really looking forward to this place. I think the concept is good but the food missed the mark. We got the taco trio, the wings and the dumplings. The tacos were good but the other items were very average. The wings were giant and looked like the chickens that they came from were bodybuilders on steroids. They had no taste notwithstanding being lathered in sauce . The dumplings tasted like they were not fresh but frozen. The lychee drink tastes like kool-aid. I would not go back here unfortunately.

I am suspicious of fusion restaurants but the Steamy Pig managed to have fusion that was authentic to Asian food. Loved the bulgogi beef chow fun, the soup dumplings, the dumplings in garlic oil, and the bbq pork baozi. We sat in the garden with the heat lamp on, quite comfortable for us. A place I would definitely go back to!

The food was very good overall but the portions were small there. Seating inside and outside with open windows. If you are a big party going there, the best thing is to split the party in two. Recommended dishes: The beef chao fun, the soup dumplings, the jiaozi, the bao buns (if you like spicy food) The service there was fine.

Pretty small, great little shaded patio. Food came pretty fast. Highly recommend the soup dumplings, even if you have picky eaters like my 14 year old. Not spicy unless you add the chili sauce. My kids all wanted more. The shrimp dumplings were not very good but the BBQ pork steamed buns were so good. Also, the custard sweet dumplings for dessert were so cute and tasted great!

This restaurant is very casual and quick and easy. It has indoor and outdoor seating (5 or 6 tables each) We chose indoor as it was somewhat cool on this January early evening. (Note that they do have heat lamps outside.) Food was good, not special, and service with a few exceptions was not attentive. Price points are good, though, so give it a try.

We came in search of soup dumplings. Everything was amazing. Stop everything and come get the bulgogi wrap. We were blown away. The menu overall is a nice fusion of Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, and more. Everything we tasted was done exceptionally well.
