We came in search of soup dumplings. Everything was amazing. Stop everything and come get the bulgogi wrap. We were blown away. The menu overall is a nice fusion of Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, and more. Everything we tasted was done exceptionally well.

While in the area looking for furniture (see review of My Budget Furniture) my son and I went to Steamy Piggy for a late lunch. He has been to the Convoy Street area for many meals and knew of the excellent Asian food available. Steamy...Piggy was on his list so off we went. This place serves some terrific food. We selected for our lunch a Happy Hour Bar Flight (piggy bao, bulgogi bao and a chicken bao), an order of soup dumplings and an order of BBQ Pork Baozi. The first items to come our of the kitchen were the Pork Baozi. The buns were so fluffy and the texture was prefect. The filling of the BBQ pork was full of flavor and each bite was taste bud happiness. We then were served the trio of Bao and each one was excellent, flavorful, bun done just right. We ended with the soup dumplings and again were impressed by the talent of the chef in the kitchen. Hot and steamy it was a perfect ending to our late lunch. We will be back for sure the next time I come down to San Diego for a visit.More

The food was very good overall but the portions were small there. Seating inside and outside with open windows. If you are a big party going there, the best thing is to split the party in two. Recommended dishes: The beef chao fun, the soup...dumplings, the jiaozi, the bao buns (if you like spicy food) The service there was fine.More

We were near the end of a multi-week trip and hadn't had Asian food in a while. We searched and found this incredible Asian food oasis- Convoy St in Kearny Mesa. The whole street is either car dealerships or Asian restaurants of every type--- strip...malls with 10+ restaurants. It was so unique and amazing. Steamy Piggy was very good- food was delicious- we particularly got a kick out of the pig shaped deserts. and that on the bottom of the receipt it says "Thoink You!" Love the humor of this place. Only thing that was strange and negatively impacted it was that they use paper plates and plastic silverware. they give you a small paper bowl to eat from--- it really can't fit more than one thing at a time so we ended up eating each thing sequentially as opposed to how we normally eat. I assume it was due to COVID that they use the paper plates but would recommend they make it larger than a tiny bowl for each person.More

Full disclosure: this was not the restaurant we set out to dine at, but we were both pretty pleased that the fates conspired to bring us to Steamy Piggy. After a short wait at the door, we were shown to a small table on the...patio. It was a warm day, but we were at least out of the sun and able to enjoy the fresh air and ambiance of the space. Menus are accessed via the QR code on the table, and while their menu is pretty small, they do have some inspired options. I knew I wanted a rice dish, so went with the Bulgogi bowl ($11.50). My husband opted for the Spicy Ramen ($13.50) and we decided to share the Bulgogi Roll ($9.50). We rounded out our order with a couple of Thai Iced Teas. Everything is served on disposable (and I hope, eco-friendly) dishware. The Bulgogi Roll came out first - it's basically a bulgogi/scallion pancake burrito concoction, with a melty white cheese pulling everything together. I honestly didn't love the roll - the cheese was a bit off-putting for me - but my husband enjoyed it enough to finish off both halves. The entrees came out pretty quickly after that, and I did enjoy the bulgogi bowl - it was much better (and maybe more traditional) than the roll. The rice was a tiny bit too dry for my liking, but the beef was marinated and tasty, and it was tender. My husband enjoyed his spicy ramen, though I don't think it was quite spicy enough for him. I'm still amazed that he ordered a bowl of hot soup in the middle of summer. He sat there sweating as he slurped noodles and downed sauce. He did say it wasn't his favorite bowl of ramen ever, but it at least had good flavor. The service was good - two waiters that were attentive without being overbearing - while we were there, though there was a couple that arrived as we were finishing up that were (loudly) complaining that they hadn't been helped. In the staff's defense, the waiter did stop by after they were seated, but the woman rather rudely shoo'd him away. I'm sure we'll be back, I'd like to sample their chili wontons and those cute bao that are pictured all over the place.More

Pretty small, great little shaded patio. Food came pretty fast. Highly recommend the soup dumplings, even if you have picky eaters like my 14 year old. Not spicy unless you add the chili sauce. My kids all wanted more. The shrimp dumplings were not very...good but the BBQ pork steamed buns were so good. Also, the custard sweet dumplings for dessert were so cute and tasted great!More

Located in a small strip this gemcwas just what the doctor ordered. Due to virus scare, the place as well as the entire mall was empty. Service was excellent. Waitress was very helpful. Dumplings, Dim Sum and other items were excellent. Just as good as...Jasmine. Looking forward to my next visitMore

They gave us the wrong food on take out and nicely called to notify us. Unfortunately we were 30-40 minutes away by that point (traffic/rush hour). We were told we would be called back shortly to inform us about voiding the cost of the meal....We never received a call and they wouldn’t pick up when I tried calling back. Not only that when they did pick up they would just leave the phone off the hook. Now that they have swindled a 50$ meal from me for some ramen, I resort to leaving these negative reviews. Such as will be on google review, yelp etc.More

It took a bit of a drive to get to the Steamy Piggy, but once we got there we were happy we made the journey. The menu has traditional Chinese options with a modern twist. The food was so good. Order the bao buns!

This restaurant is very casual and quick and easy. It has indoor and outdoor seating (5 or 6 tables each) We chose indoor as it was somewhat cool on this January early evening. (Note that they do have heat lamps outside.) Food was good, not...special, and service with a few exceptions was not attentive. Price points are good, though, so give it a try.More

Cute little place to get some dumplings and buns. Nice outside seating. Dumpling bento was surprisingly filling. The Dumplings were tasty as well as the noodles. The piggy bao was good but a little too fatty. A bit pricey compared to other dumpling restaurants in...the area. Good customer service. Parking can be difficult.More

There are a multitude of restaurants on Convoy Street of every Asian flavor. We didn't know exactly what we wanted and just cruised the street to see what hit us. We saw this one and were drawn in by the cute name and good Yelp...reviews. Glad we did. This is a Taiwanese noodle cafe, casual but with table service, as well as a nice outdoor seating area where dogs are welcome. They specialize in homemade noodles, including spicy Dan Dan Noodles, a modern twist on baos, XLB soup dumplings, a variety of gyoza/pot sticker-type dumplings (described as fried but brought to the table a bit crunchy on one side and a bit softer on the other--yum!), steamed dumplings such as shrimp har gow, and a few rice bowl with meat dishes. Everything we tried was delicious.More

We pass Steamy Piggy at least twice a week. It’s intrigued us for a while, but we have our regular haunts and the stomach wants what the stomach wants. Today was the day for Steamy Piggy. We decided if we could find parking, we would...finally check it out. Miraculously, we pulled in and snagged the spot right at their door. It was a sign!! Clearly, the year of the piggy has spoken. We walked in and were greeted immediately by a young hipster server who offered us outdoor or indoor seating and then got us situated with menus and water. We caught a glimpse of the Dumpling Wizard at work and saw a few dishes fly by (all looked great) and put in our order for a few things to test out, I mean share (wink wink).. Rainbow Dumplings...spicy curry especially wonderful, the veg was succulent but the array of flavors, fillings and colors were fantastic. Spicy Thai Bao.. fun fried chicken and spicy sauce filled fluffy Bao that resembled a taco. Winner! XLB...admittedly we are total snobs about this dish...the most difficult part of this dumpling is to execute the wrapper perfectly. Thin enough to contain its contents, but no more. Steamy Piggy pulled it off brilliantly. The filling could have been slightly more tender but overall one of the best in KM. Our last dish was Beef Chow Fun. We loved it. It was intense due to the marinated?? beef that had a sizzling crust and a surprisingly generous portion of meat vs onion/noodles etc. This dish was fired in less than 3 minutes and all the food came out quickly. Service was great. Prices were as expected . Atmosphere was super pleasant aside from the plant hospital. I’d probably thin them out, replace the stragglers. I do so love the vibe of that look but someone needs to take charge of nurturing them properly or replace the live stuff completely. That is seriously our only gripe and it’s not really a gripe, it would just bump the ambiance up measurably. Oh and why why why TA reviews are so bouncy in the star department. The food and total experience at Steamy Piggy is excellent. It’s non traditional but really nicely presented and wonderful tasting riffs on familiar favorites.More
