I was really looking forward to this place. I think the concept is good but the food missed the mark. We got the taco trio, the wings and the dumplings. The tacos were good but the other items were very average. The wings were giant...and looked like the chickens that they came from were bodybuilders on steroids. They had no taste notwithstanding being lathered in sauce . The dumplings tasted like they were not fresh but frozen. The lychee drink tastes like kool-aid. I would not go back here unfortunately.More

Came here with another young family for Saturday night dinner with reservations. We ordered almost everything on the menu and everything was tasty. If you are looking for traditional Taiwanese, Korean or whatever authentic Asian food, this is not your place. This place is more...of a fusion hip place - if you are open minded about that, give it a try!More

We ordered the soup dumplings today and there were no soup in the dumplings. Also, the size is quite small. (mini dumplings) We also ordered the shrimp dumplings and we were shocked to see the "shrimp" size dumplings. Any respectable Chinese would've send it back....The beef bulgogi roll was tasty. ⭐️⭐️ But they missed on the beef chow fun! It was way too salty! Overall, I wouldn't come back here. It's may be good for non-Asian crowd who don't really know dumplings and Asian eats.More

Who knows if the food is good. We were never seated. We joined the wait list as a party of five. We were given the choice to eat outside but it was 51 degrees and we had a toddler, so we said we would wait...for an inside table. 45 minutes later we watched as parties of three and four were seated ahead of us. The wait list tablet shows who’s next and how many in the party. Multiple times a party of 3 or 4, lower on the wait list, was seated ahead of us. Finally we asked which table we were waiting for and they said the next table for four! What???? All the four seat tables had just been seated. How long a wait we asked, don’t know they said. Ok. They don’t seat parties of 5 inside. Just say so. If you are a large party (>4) go elsewhere.More

I am suspicious of fusion restaurants but the Steamy Pig managed to have fusion that was authentic to Asian food. Loved the bulgogi beef chow fun, the soup dumplings, the dumplings in garlic oil, and the bbq pork baozi. We sat in the garden with...the heat lamp on, quite comfortable for us. A place I would definitely go back to!More

As a food snob, I'm often guilty of ignoring fusion offerings. In most cases, the food is prepared by someone who understand neither of the two original cuisines. Despite its hipster appeal, Steamy Piggy offers authentic and very good original dishes and very good fusion...offerings. Xiaolongbao, Shanghainese soup dumplings, has been hot recently. It's not difficult to find a restaurant with this dish, but extremely difficult to find one that serves it well. The soup dumplings here were very good - which is the highest praise possible outside of Ding Tai Fun. We ordered a bok choy, an extremely simple dish with the vegetable cooked in oil and garlic. So many restaurants get fussy with this dish. Here, it's simply cooked and delicious. Other dishes were equally well done, including the pork belly ramen (Japanese). The Bulgogi roll, made with beef (Korean) and scallion pancakes (Chinese) were an eye opener, and cemented their fusion credentials. Hats off from a grumpy Boomer.More

My kids love this place. It has indoor and outdoor seating and dog-friendly. The bulgogi rice bowl and ramen are the favorites. There are quite a few other tasty items on the menu. Depending on staff availability, the service can be fast or a bit...slower however the quality of the food has always been consistent to us.More

We came in search of soup dumplings. Everything was amazing. Stop everything and come get the bulgogi wrap. We were blown away. The menu overall is a nice fusion of Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, and more. Everything we tasted was done exceptionally well.

While in the area looking for furniture (see review of My Budget Furniture) my son and I went to Steamy Piggy for a late lunch. He has been to the Convoy Street area for many meals and knew of the excellent Asian food available. Steamy...Piggy was on his list so off we went. This place serves some terrific food. We selected for our lunch a Happy Hour Bar Flight (piggy bao, bulgogi bao and a chicken bao), an order of soup dumplings and an order of BBQ Pork Baozi. The first items to come our of the kitchen were the Pork Baozi. The buns were so fluffy and the texture was prefect. The filling of the BBQ pork was full of flavor and each bite was taste bud happiness. We then were served the trio of Bao and each one was excellent, flavorful, bun done just right. We ended with the soup dumplings and again were impressed by the talent of the chef in the kitchen. Hot and steamy it was a perfect ending to our late lunch. We will be back for sure the next time I come down to San Diego for a visit.More

The food was very good overall but the portions were small there. Seating inside and outside with open windows. If you are a big party going there, the best thing is to split the party in two. Recommended dishes: The beef chao fun, the soup...dumplings, the jiaozi, the bao buns (if you like spicy food) The service there was fine.More

We were near the end of a multi-week trip and hadn't had Asian food in a while. We searched and found this incredible Asian food oasis- Convoy St in Kearny Mesa. The whole street is either car dealerships or Asian restaurants of every type--- strip...malls with 10+ restaurants. It was so unique and amazing. Steamy Piggy was very good- food was delicious- we particularly got a kick out of the pig shaped deserts. and that on the bottom of the receipt it says "Thoink You!" Love the humor of this place. Only thing that was strange and negatively impacted it was that they use paper plates and plastic silverware. they give you a small paper bowl to eat from--- it really can't fit more than one thing at a time so we ended up eating each thing sequentially as opposed to how we normally eat. I assume it was due to COVID that they use the paper plates but would recommend they make it larger than a tiny bowl for each person.More

Full disclosure: this was not the restaurant we set out to dine at, but we were both pretty pleased that the fates conspired to bring us to Steamy Piggy. After a short wait at the door, we were shown to a small table on the...patio. It was a warm day, but we were at least out of the sun and able to enjoy the fresh air and ambiance of the space. Menus are accessed via the QR code on the table, and while their menu is pretty small, they do have some inspired options. I knew I wanted a rice dish, so went with the Bulgogi bowl ($11.50). My husband opted for the Spicy Ramen ($13.50) and we decided to share the Bulgogi Roll ($9.50). We rounded out our order with a couple of Thai Iced Teas. Everything is served on disposable (and I hope, eco-friendly) dishware. The Bulgogi Roll came out first - it's basically a bulgogi/scallion pancake burrito concoction, with a melty white cheese pulling everything together. I honestly didn't love the roll - the cheese was a bit off-putting for me - but my husband enjoyed it enough to finish off both halves. The entrees came out pretty quickly after that, and I did enjoy the bulgogi bowl - it was much better (and maybe more traditional) than the roll. The rice was a tiny bit too dry for my liking, but the beef was marinated and tasty, and it was tender. My husband enjoyed his spicy ramen, though I don't think it was quite spicy enough for him. I'm still amazed that he ordered a bowl of hot soup in the middle of summer. He sat there sweating as he slurped noodles and downed sauce. He did say it wasn't his favorite bowl of ramen ever, but it at least had good flavor. The service was good - two waiters that were attentive without being overbearing - while we were there, though there was a couple that arrived as we were finishing up that were (loudly) complaining that they hadn't been helped. In the staff's defense, the waiter did stop by after they were seated, but the woman rather rudely shoo'd him away. I'm sure we'll be back, I'd like to sample their chili wontons and those cute bao that are pictured all over the place.More

Pretty small, great little shaded patio. Food came pretty fast. Highly recommend the soup dumplings, even if you have picky eaters like my 14 year old. Not spicy unless you add the chili sauce. My kids all wanted more. The shrimp dumplings were not very...good but the BBQ pork steamed buns were so good. Also, the custard sweet dumplings for dessert were so cute and tasted great!More

Located in a small strip this gemcwas just what the doctor ordered. Due to virus scare, the place as well as the entire mall was empty. Service was excellent. Waitress was very helpful. Dumplings, Dim Sum and other items were excellent. Just as good as...Jasmine. Looking forward to my next visitMore
