We were recommended Mela over some other notables. This is a smaller place, but 10 of us were easily accomodated. Food is outstanding. We added the kababs, some chat, goat curry, vindaloo.

I have no idea what REAL Indian food is supposed to taste like. It doesn't matter. I just know that the food here is really tasty-delicious -- eat in or take out. If you do eat in, the staff is so very friendly and the interior is lovely. Food is consistent -- although sometimes I wonder if they heard my... More

When we got to Mela I was already starving as we had spent the night looking for places toe eat but most places were closed so when I found this little treat i was relieved! I wasn't very happy with the fact that we stayed there for 1hr 30minutes but, with no seats at a table yet. But, when we... More

Great place to visit if you're looking for good authentic North Indian food. The vegetarian samosa is excellent. One of the very few restaurants that stays open throughout the day. Service is pretty good too. A little pricey but worth it.

I chose this restaurant because I like Indian food and I was staying on South Side. I liked it so much that I went there 3 times during my week in Boston. Both the service and food quality are of a high standard - but it was the authentic nature of the dishes, and the wide selection of vegetarian options,... More

This is a gem! Great food, fresh ingredients and cozy. Staff is accommodating. My favorite is the osso bucco!

The food is full of flavor and spice, a mixture of traditional and modern. The restaurant is small, but clean and stylish. Service is fine. But I go for the lunch buffet, served seven days. It's a great value and allows you to try something new every time, And the fresh baked Naan is delish. You can even get it... More

We’ve gone to Mela somewhat frequently (1x/month or so, maybe slightly less?) and have always enjoyed our meal. Most recently we were there on Sunday night and as usual, food was great. We aren’t hugely adventurous but love Chicken Tikka Masala (of course!) and I think Mela’s is one of the better ones. I also really enjoy their Chicken Chat…really... More

First, my comments relate only to lunch -- although I enjoy the Mela's lunch buffet fairly often, I have no experience with their evening meals. There are a number of Indian restaurants with lunch buffets in Boston and Cambridge. Ever since the Bombay Club in Harvard Square, I've found Mela to be a head above the others that I've been... Decent food, very good service...Staff is well motivated...I wanted to stick to a veg cuisine hence ordered Bhindi Masala and Roti....It comes with rice and the portion was good for two. Price is on the higher side but the portion compensates... Taste was good and had flavor. Presentation was not the best and it was clear that the vegetables were... More

Staying in South End

Neighborhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
