Great steak, in a historic building (Old City Hall)

We had a really good steak dinner here at Ruth's Chris. I've been the their restaurants in many cities, and this one did not disappoint in comparison to the others. The venue is in a very neat old building, that used to be Old City Hall, and Maison Robert for many years. While I morning the... read more

Both steaks were superb (Cowboy ribeye $56 and fillet $42) but the broccoli side was overcooked and forget the cheesecake completely. It was not good. It had a saccharine aftertaste and the crust was soggy and uninspired. Service was good but not extraordinary.

Attended a business dinner in a private function room on the lower level. Being on the lower level, there are no windows but the rooms are nicely decorated. The appetizer, seared tuna, was excellent. House salad was standard. Main course was crabcakes which consisted of three 3 inch crabcakes with very little breading and a lot of meat. Most other... More

I was in Boston Solo. I booked to go here on Thanksgiving Evening. I had a great dinner here, Steak was amazing, all the side dishes were just superb, spinach, potato Gratin. The waiter did advise that they were to share and bigger portions, was nice he was thinking about me not wasting money. I want to say a big... More

The setting is beautiful and you feel like a rock star...The service is adequate for the prices and the food is just o.k. now. I have been going to Ruth's Chris for 20 years and it has just lost its charm. Makes me sad.

Dined at Ruth's Chris with high hopes of a wonderful gastronomic experience. Was I mistaken! From the onset, my salad was drenched with the wrong dressing on it. I requested dressing on the side. By the time another salad arrived, my dining partners were half finished with theirs. Cracked pepper, as customary, was not offered and had to be requested.... More

Went with 7 other people on a Monday evening. Started at 6 p.m. and didn't get out of there until 9:30 p.m. 8 of us shared a couple of appetizers, 4 sides dishes, and not everyone had alcohol. I ordered an appetizer portion of crab cakes, and 3 of us had desserts. The bill was almost $800. Outrageous! The food... More

My husband and I were in Boston to visit our son and his girlfriend and celebrate his birthday. He had made a reservation at Ruth's Chris for the 4 of us, and we were captivated by the historical richness of the the Old City Hall in which is it located. Our son and his girlfriend were dressed very informally, which... More

It filled the bill as a high end steakhouse with filets that were tender and tasty as one would expect for this establishment. Unfortunately, it took on the image of a chain restaurant with the other dishes. Appetizers of stuffed mushrooms (white mushrooms with no flavor - should have been portabella or some other); side dish of creamed spinach had... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
