The line was too long at Mikes so we decided to stop in here. They had a large selection and the line moved quickly. I had a cannoli filled with vanilla custard, very good. My boyfriend had the rum baba which was disgusting and tastes like straight rum, we never had one before so didn't know if it was suppose... More

I dreamed of returning to Modern and it did not burst my bubble. It was exactly as I remembered it. I would have loved to bring back some cannoli to Hilton Head... I will just have to wait until I return to get my fill.

Two great bakeries on the street. Take your pick both great for breads and sweets. Go have a nice meal in the North End....and walk to either one to complete the night. Most of the restaurants in Boston but their deserts wholesale from one of these bakeries. So buy direct.

The wait was shorter than mikes and a little more expensive but we'll worth it. They have more cookies and cakes and less and only three selections of cannolis it was a nice change from standing in line at Mike's if the pistachio macaroons are good I will definitely go back we also got a huge chocolate peanut butter Reese's... Yes, the line is long. It snakes down the street on weekends. However, the cannoli, cookies, sfogliatelle, pastries and coffee are well worth the wait. The line moves fairly fast and bring cash.

Not many bakeries and pastry shops have gluten free on their menu. Modern is known for their cannolies. Multiple ways they serve them to satisfy your taste buds. The GF cannoli & creme brûlée was the best I've ever eaten (& I've sampled a lot of creme brûlée). Family owned, authentic Italian...

The lines are LONG! It is very close to the freedom trail. I didn't care for the Cannoli's but, loved their fruit tart, strawberry shortcake, etc. I did learn in the line the bigger the box the better and they ship in the United States if you are really in LOVE with their food!

Went in last night after a great dinner as we had some out of town visitors who wanted to take Canollis home. The staff was awesome and packed the canolli shells and filling separately so they would travel well. I brought home a Boston Creme (super delicious) , Ricotta Pie (interesting but not wow) and a lobster tail (fantastic) Definitely... More

Wow, I would give this place a 10 if I could! We stayed in Boston 2 days and 1 night and went both days for the lobster tail. It is so crunchy and the filling is amazing!!! If I lived here I would find it hard to have the willpower not to eat it all the time. Haha The dining... More

On a trip to Boston, we stopped here for a pastry. I am drooling thinking of it. Get the cannoli or any other pastry and you can't go wrong. Loved it!

Staying in North End

Neighborhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
