Love the Cannoli! You can pick your shell and filling as well as add chocolate chips. Great place for dessert in the North End.

I see that Bova ranks higher than Modern, but that surprises me. We went to both. I am Italian and definitely know my Italian pastries. I prefer Modern and definitely think that it is the best pastry shop in the North End. You should try as many as you can, though! :)

We were meeting friends for dinner. When one friend arrived, she had a box in hand with cannoli. After dinner, we caught a cab back to our hotel. The cab driver saw the box and told us we'd love it...that Modern was where the locals go. I will say, as soon as we were in the room, the box was... More

We waited 20 minutes to get in since the wait at Mike's was much longer. The cannolis were good but not amazing.

What a busy place and variety of items to tantalize your tastes. We tried 3 different items and were surprised at the good flavors.

The lobster tail pastry is huge and amazing !! A must try. Also have tried the apple pie turnover and cookies. Everything is amazing. The line moves very quickly.

We had dinner at a restaurant on Hanover Street and on the way home, decided to stop into the Modern Pastry Shop. They have tables you can sit at, which is very nice. It was very busy, but was no issue getting our to go order of an eclair and a napoleon. Very simply, they were excellent. Very fresh, no... More

Stopped by here for coffee after dinner. All of the pastry my party had was great and our server was very sweet. It is a small place but make the effort.

decided to try them this time. Don't waste your time. Mike's hands down is better. There cannoli was good but Mike's is 100% better. Go to Mike's across the street.

Foolish to go to any other bakery. For table service just go in. Don't wait in line. Best cannoli and ricotta pie

Staying in North End

Neighborhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
