I enjoy eating breakfast outside on the sidewalk on a nice day. They have a nice selection of eggs and other breakfast foods as well as lunch items. I like the Eggs Benedict, and my son enjoys the NY Reuben sandwich.

We stayed at the Midtown hotel just two blocks away from this excellent eating place. Thorntons is very popular for breakfast do get there early, to be fair, we never had to wait more than 15 minutes and it's well with the wait, Great choice of breakfast items and whatever you choose is great and really good value, the fact... I have no problem with rude if that is the play for the restaurant but they just seemed to be bothered by customers any of them not just us. I was a little taken aback. The food was great the cooks need a raise. I would for sure give it a second go because of that but the wait staff... More

We went here on the first day of our trip and decided to continue into the restaurant despite exceptionally noisy construction work being done outside! The server was very friendly and the food was really good; I had a very nice Egg's Benedict which came with some delicious potatoes (slightly strange at Breakfast time for a Brit!). A terrific start... More

Visited this place a few times. Their Pecan waffle and Amaretto Vanilla French Toast are incredible! The place is quite old, but I think it gives it character! One piece of advise would be to get there as early as you can! It gets so busy that the queue is out the door! But it is worth the wait.

Good food, limited seating. American express cards are not accepted. Service is fast and kind of relaxed

We wanted a less expensive option for breakfast and Thornton's definitely offers this. The food was good and fairly prices. Unfortunately our server did not speak English well and this proved to be a problematic. I was served lukewarm tea and could not seem to find a way to remedy the situation. A table near us wanted Coke and they... More

I loved my food. Super delicious. I would have rated it a 5 but my French toast wasn't very hot when I got it and I had to ask for a drink refill. I feel they should automatically refill drinks as they get low. That's a huge thing for me.

We went 2 mornings in a row and had same waiter, different experiences.First visit was before 9 am; great experience, decent food, courteous, friendly waiter. Second day , after 9am; waiter was stressed, there was a line, order was slow to arrive and order was mixed up. But, it was much better than the donut shop menu and much cheaper... More

We went here to get our fix of american diner fare while visiting Boston. It was not bad, but it is not up there with the greats. Pancakes and waffles were OK - but just a bit stodgy. Waffle a bit soggy - not that nice crisp outer. Eggs were rather overdone and a bit rubbery (despite asking for them... More

Staying in Back Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
