This diner is awesome and if you are a Reacher fan you'll know exactly what's on the menu! Food was great and the atmosphere was also great!!

If you are a fan of old school diners it is worth a trip. Not everything is original to the building but still cool. Never had anything but breakfast and that is good. Nothing really creative or over the top. Good banana bread. Hash browns are the deep fried little squares, not the grilled diner type. Pancakes are good. The... More

Ambience = interesting. Tables & Booths not stationary. Bottomless coffee for $2.50 but having it filled challenging. Had Banana French Toast ($10) which was overpriced and so-so. Diner has a dirty/greasy spoon feel to it.

Classic old school diner, I've been driving past this place for 20 years and I finally had the occasion to stop in and eat breakfast. 7AM there was a cook, a waitress, and one gentleman sitting at a table. Our order was taken right away, they even out on a fresh pot of decaf for us. Coffee is good, much... More

What a great time we had here for lunch. We were obviously from out of town, but from the minute we walked in, we were treated like one of their own. The food was freshly made and DELICIOUS!!! We had club sandwiches. The staff is by far the friendliest we have met. We are definitely going back!

I have enjoyed this diner for years (through all its name and ownership changes), and it has never disappointed. Classic breakfast, lunch, and supper americana menu is reasonably priced. Counter and booth service are both quick.

Surprisingly the food at Southside Diner was quite good, especially considering that the seats have sticky residue between their crevices and the waitresses there are quick to give you a mouthful of diatribe if you dare request for service. Still, if you can keep your hands off the seats and tables and just keep your mouth shut and head down... More

I'm not usually a fan of diner food, but our experience at South Street Diner changed my opinion. I'd passed by the diner many times and was happy to see that a bit of the old neighborhood hadn't been destroyed to create even more high-rise condos. The exterior is very shabby, but the inside contains a small, efficient restaurant. Even... More

South Street Diner was my last stop after a night out and a bar crawl with some friends I met while in Boston. They had a bouncer at the door and were serious about no feet on the seats. There is one row of seats and it truly is an old fashioned diner experience. The portions were huge, our waitress... More

If your not used to the "diner experience"then this is the place to go. Decor, music, lighting, wait staff were all very retro. We arrived mid evening New Years eve and had good service and with a relatively large menus selection, something for everyone.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
The largest area of the city, Downtown is rich with historical and iconic sites in Boston. Stroll through one of Boston’s most famous green spaces, the Boston Public Gardens, check out and make way for duckling statues, picnic under a beautiful tree overlooking the pond, and walk over the iconic footbridge where, during summer time, you will catch a swan boat toting children and eager tourists through the pond. Have your camera ready to capture its peaceful beauty in the middle of a bustling city. Continue on through the Gardens and take in some open green space at the Boston Common, where you can spend time throwing a frisbee, sitting on a park bench, or, in the winter time, skating on the frog pond. Head north from the end of the Common to see the golden dome of the State House, and travel through government center to Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, both a historic and popular destination worth a quick visit for a first time to Boston. Head to Long Wharf to visit the Aquarium, or catch a boat to Charlestown or even Cape Cod.
