Based on reviews, I walked over to El Oriental from where I was staying. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The food was quite good. Very well prepared. Had the drunken goat. Very tasty. I highly recommend this place!

Jamaica Plain offers some of the best Cuban restaurants in Boston, and El Oriental de Cuba is a good example! I came here with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago, and we split a few dishes off the appetizer menu. The Cuban pork tamales, Puerto Rican chicken pasteles, and the empanadas were all fantastic. I particularly recommend the guava... More

I stopped by after work because family and friends had heightened my anticipation of trying Cuban food again. I was not disappointed! The garlic shrimp, rice, black beans, and sweet plantains were full of flavor and cooked just right. My waitress was very friendly and it looked as though many locals came on a regular basis. I would recommend this... More

I was taken there by a friend and had a very large and very delicious lunch. The atmosphere is nice with lots of pictures of Cuba and salsa music playing in the background. The portions are big and you will not leave hungry! We all had the mofongo which was delicious. I will be returning soon.

Had a Cuban sandwich and a mango shake and espresso all were great. Service with a smile and delicious food. We had a very nice meal and enjoyed the location, space and staff.

This has been my second visit to this local gem in Jamaica Plains, Boston. The food is authentic and tasty. Try the yellow rice, sweet plantain, black bean and oxtail. It's full of flavor and sure to have you licking your fingertips. Although the place is small this adds to the intimacy of its settings and helps to create that... More

Great food, however is a mixture of Puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine. The service was good, is a small restaurant, therefore be prepared to wait on a Saturday or Sunday evening. The theme of the restaurant is lovely, paints and history in the walls. I def recommend it. Also the portions are big, for two.

El Oriental is located in Jamaica Plains, in Boston. This restaurant was recommended by a Cuban patient of mine, who highly recommended it. However, after eating in Versalles, in Little Havana, arguably the Mecca of cuban food in this country I will have to give this eatery an average grade. The location is a bit sketchy, the decor does make... More

I needed a Cuban fix and suggested this spot based on reviews. Maybe it was the anticipation building during the 45 minute drive across town, but El Oriental de Cuba was not up to our expectations. A Cuban sandwich was okay, but the roast pork was tough and the bread was ordinary. Black beans and rice came as 2 separate... More

Any restaurant that is jam-packed with local families is going to be good and this was no exception. Generous portions of unassuming Cuban style dishes. Too full to test the desserts!

Staying in Jamaica Plain

Neighborhood Profile
Jamaica Plain
This Boston neighborhood feels like a distinct community unique and separate from the bustle of other areas. Beautiful Victorian homes, restaurants with an emphasis on being eco-friendly and providing local and organic food, and a large Hispanic community. Visit Centre and South streets for restaurants, cafes, and little shops. The Arnold Arboretum is a beautiful, large green space well worth a visit if you venture to JP.
