The food was just okay. The place is small and VERY loud to the point you had to yell to hear each other. That would have been fine had the meal been better. I was disappointed that the food was so very mediocre. I had an Amarone wine. It was good, not great. Hated the wine glasses but that's my... More

Quick trip to Boston, and stopped here for dinner with my wife. Gnocchi for me, Chicken Venensia for the wife, and a bottle of Sangiovese. Both were good, but the chicken was the winner. Great place, good prices ... will definitely come back.

We ate at Al Dente our first night in Boston. We had read several reviews and this little gem really stuck out to us. Definitely recommend this little place. Any locals we spoke to afterwards told us it's not a typical place tourists frequent as mostly only locals go there, so we were glad to have chosen Al Dente! RESTAURANT:... More

There are so many Italian restaurants in Boston's North End, it's difficult to know which one to choose. Al Dente was recommended to us by Italians who live in the area and we were not disappointed. Small and crowded when we sat down at 8:30pm but thinned out as we dined. We had pumpkin stuffed ravioli for our appetizer. Delish!... More

Thanks to TripAdvisor found this little gem of a restaurant on my first night in the city. Had a beautiful pasta meal of shrimp and calamari with a nice glass of Malbec. Service was excellent. Was welcomed from the moment I asked for a table through to when I left. The only slight negative (and this is me being picky)... More

Aside from the food (which is good), I have to add the service is impeccable! The hostess, Annette, was such a delight to talk to, and my waitress—I think her name's Angelou—was very nice and very accommodating. The servings are huge (and this is coming from a guy who loves to eat). I had the Al Dente special, which slightly... More

Al Dente is located on the north end which is the little Italy part of Boston. The neighborhood is a lot of fun especially in the evening. I made a reservation at this restaurant and I'm glad I did because it was very small and there was a line out the door. The food was OK, not great. My guests... More

Called for reservations when they were full on a sunday,. Luckily they fit us in. It was crazy busy and a bit cramped, but worth it. Our server Ernestine offered us great suggestions. I am newly somewhat gluten free and she steered me in the right direction. Our spinach crepe ( she told me not gluten free) was worth it.... More

We were referred to Al Dente by a friend. It is not right in the heart of the Boston North End (where you follow the Freedom trail), it is on Salem St. We were so surprised to see yet another fabulous Italian street when we turned onto to Salem to find Al Dente. We were fortunate enough to get a... More

We looked for an authentic Italian north end restaurant that we could make reservations for. (We wanted small, boisterous, and family oriented). Al Dente met our needs and more. Our waitress , Maria, was fantastic, patient with us out of towners and gave a great dessert recommendation. The kids could pick the pasta type and sauce they wanted while I... More

Staying in North End

Neighborhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
