There were four of us. The food was above average, but very expensive for the type of bar/pub setting without any ambiance. The wines were exotic and expensive as well, but we had help from the hostess. The service was good. We would no go back but I understand how some people would.

Busy little place in the south end of Boston. Food was very creative and delicious. We ordered lots of plates to share and I must say the foie gras was very tasty. We enjoyed various vegetable dishes and also the duck breast and the hangar steak. Wine hit the spot as well and the service was excellent.

Appalling service and attitude for an up market establishment. Booked, arrived, not overly busy for sure but evidently short-staffed. Starters very good, 4 meals, 3 were steaks, 2 were lukewarm, returned and heated and re-appeared as other 2 meals were finishing. Manageress (?) poor attitude. Items were removed from bill after a 2 sitting meal. Management not overly concerned. Not... More

Quaint place. Good steak, and charcuterie. All of the house made patés and terrines are delicious. Great wine and beer list too! You can grab already made sauces and such in th back. Easy to grab for parties and small gatherings.

This place had promise. It was good to see the hildago manzanilla on the wine list. That started things off nicely with the duck liver mousse. However things started to slide when a grudging portion of burrata was served with odds and sods on the side including smears of lemon curd. The arugula salad was tired, mixed in with more... More

Great ambiance with floor to ceiling Windows..... Long bar, butcher block, and high top tables. Great for food and drinks or just drinks. Great selection of wine! When I used to live in the South End this was my weekly spot. Thanks for always being consistent and wonderful!

We did not have reservations to eat a very late lunch at this tiny restaurant/butcher shop in the South End, but we were able to get in within about 15 minutes, probably because we were between meals times. The food was great, wine was great. People really do come here to buy their meat from the butcher. Highly recommend.

I had dinner there at The Butcher Shop with my family. Wine list is great especially their good selection of wine by glass. Their foie gras is perfectly fried with crisp outside and soft inside with excellent side. The steak I ordered medium-rare was perfectly cooked. It came without any side dish so you can enjoy the real taste it.... More

I had a late lunch with my family at The Butcher Shop last week and we all were happy about their food and the environment. I ordered the Tagliatelle and it was the perfect size and delicious :) Thank you for having us! (Caution! It can happen that they cut up meat so the guests can see)

My partner and I needed a light snack in the evening and The Butcher Shop offered exactly that. Whilst the cut meats and cheese were of a good quality and tasty, the poor attitude of the staff and substandard serving etiquette made us feel unwelcome. Expect the food and wine to be good, if a pricey snack, and the nature... More

Staying in South End

Neighborhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
