Fine Persian dining in Beacon Hill

Lala Rokh is a traditional Persian restaurant of obvious caliber, with a nice bar to compliment the exotic menu. The space isn't spectacular, but the general location is, as it is one of the only restaurants actually in the core of Beacon Hill. While the place comes across as somewhat quirky and... read more

Agree with those that feel that this previously refreshingly different Boston dining alternative has gone down hill over the years. Over-salted, heavy mushy dishes. On week nights, it can be relatively empty, which means that it is not a bad alternative for a quiet dinner - but that's not a reason to choose it for dining. Attention should have been... More

We hosted to dinner to this restaurant. One of the team member was an Iranian and found it authentic, especially the singer and the music that was playing in the background. There is a bar for pre dinner drinks and private dining area for corporate dining. The staff is friendly and explains the menu well. We tried several appetizers and... More

Lala Rokh's location, just off busy Charles Street, makes it less touristy than most around there. Its menu is varied, including some superb Persian dishes. I had a perfectly spiced fessenjan, my companion a succulent Cornish game hen. Don't skip the desserts which can be unusual (saffron ice cream, custard with rosewater…) and delicious. Prices are reasonable for the area;... More

Appears to be under new management. The quaint European interior has been replaced by a modern New York style bar atmosphere. The service is poor , especially compared to our previous visits . Even the food was mediocre, compared to before . We were sad to have our favorite Boston restaurant be so changed.

Located on a very attractive residential street in Beacon Hill, with a quiet, welcoming ambiance. The Persian food here isn't memorable but it's very good and satisfying. A nice neighborhood find that I'd be happy to return to.

I was under the impression that the issue of noise that drowns conversations had been resolved and that restaurant renovations now included sound absorbing materials on ceilings and walls. Apparently not at Lala Rokh on Beacon Hill. There were 6 of us, ages 25 (2), 45 (2) and 65 (2), and no one was comfortable. I mention ages because this... More

Was here for a group meal so we tried 5 different starters. They were all excellent. Anything with eggplant = yummy! I had the trout stuffed with dried fruit and nuts. It might be the best fish I've ever eaten. Definitely a place to go.

This was my second time dining here. They had renovated the interior and it is much more modern now, with a greatly expanded bar. Food was even better than my first visit. We had the stuffed trout and the sea bass. Both were outstanding. The eggplant dish we had as an appetizer was wonderful, very nicely seasoned. Would definitely return.

My wife and I had not been to Lala Rokh in several years, and took friends there on a Saturday evening. All three appetizers we ordered were excellent, especially the zeytoon. I had tilapia with tamarind and other spices, which was fresh and delicate. My wife ordered a chicken dish, which the server erroneously heard as chicken liver stew. (Not... More

Beacon Hill
Visit this historic and ritzy Boston neighborhood to soak up its classic New England charm as you stroll down cobblestoned, gas-lamp lined streets. Bring your walking shoes, camera, and select a nice day to wander through the hilly neighborhood and check out its exclusive addresses. Louisburg Square, Mt. Vernon street, Chestnut street and the extremely narrow and widely photographed Acorn street make a nice walking path.
