First the good. The dish I ordered (veal bolognese) I have to admit was very good, almost excellent even, and the caesar salad was also very good, with fresh parmesan (I can't stand it when it's out of the green can crumbled and this was not that). Prices were absolutely reasonable. So why three stars: a. Menu was totally devoid... More

For straightforward, affordable Italian-American red sauce and other basics, this is one of the best around. I'd say top five in the North End and maybe higher.

We went if for dinner on a saturday night. Service was friendly, but slow. There appeared to be a fair number of regular customers from the warm greetings exchanged. The highlight of the food was the Veal Pizzaiola - would order it again. The carbonara was bland, the pasta not well cooked. The "Shrimp Special" had nice shrimp, but the... More

A group of us ate at L'Osteria a few Fridays ago. We all just had a yen for good Italian food and where else to find the best but in the North End. this restaurant was recommended by our concierge at the Taj hotel and we booked. I think all of us were a bit disappointed. The salad was mediocre... More

A friend of mine took myself, my family and a friend out to L'Osteria's on our visit to Boston. There were 5 of us, and the lady who brought us said it was a usual stop for her mother and herself for years. We had a cross section of food from a couple of veal dishes, ravioli, the shrimp special... More

Let me begin by saying I have never sent back food at a restaurant. The fettuccine Alfredo was extremely bland - it was basically a big bowl of plain egg noodles. I would be embarrassed to serve this to any guests. Staff seemed to be distracted and most of them sat at the back without paying attention to patrons.

We ended up at the Northend on New Year's Eve . Tables were available which is already a bit of a red flag. There was no sign of New Years to see, very regulat atmosphere, hostess dressed in a gym type outfit. There was a very lousy violinist for about 20 min , who had a $10 bill attached to... More

There are a lot of places to eat in Boston's North End, but l'Osteria is one of the best! My husband and I were there on a Friday, late afternoon and it was already quite busy! Arrive early if you want a seat. The meals were wonderful, mine especially but I don't think you can go wrong on anything on... More

While strolling through the North End, we stumbled upon L'Osteria. On seeing it from the outside, my friend quickly realized she had eaten there on a previous trip to Boston. Once inside, we were seated quickly even though we didn’t have reservations and there was a Celtics game that night. We skipped appetizers on the menu (even though they sounded... More

Staying in North End

Neighborhood Profile
North End
Wandering around Boston’s North End can feel like being transported to Europe. Stroll down Hanover and Salem streets for the finest Italian restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and a few boutique shops. Take part in the big debate as to whether Modern Pastry or Mike’s serves a better cannoli. Before your food coma sets in, make sure to stop by historic Paul Revere’s home, and follow the Freedom Trail to Old North Church and Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Take a rest in a cafe on Hanover street and observe the quirky, European character of the North End.
