The good: beautiful interior, excellent service (5 stars for service), lovely bar and valet parking. The rest: check out the menu online before you go. It is quite small and expensive for what you get. I ordered the swordfish entree with chermoula and glazed carrots. I checked that it was gluten free, and they swapped out the chermoula (which is... Really disappointed. We made a reservation before Christmas or anniversary go in and have a nice dinner and we had heard about Grill 23 and to try, from beginning to end were disappointed. We arrived at the maître d' station and told him we had a reservation, we were taken upstairs which is beautiful and well decorated and they sat... More

Great Dinner. Food and service great, especially for a busy New Year's Eve dinner. We were about 30 mins late for our reservation and had no issue, this was great, we were seated as soon as we arrived. Matt our server was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.

The ambiance is steak house but without the dark wood and low lights feel. The place is huge and we sat upstairs, which seemed a bit less chaotic/busy as it was away from the bar and entrance. The 100 day aged ribeye was amazing as was the salmon my wife had. The crude app and ceasar hit the spot.

While I am not much of a seafood eater, my girlfriend is and she wanted some good seafood while in Boston. We asked the concierge at our hotel for a recommendation and he suggested Grill 23 as an option for her to get some good seafood and for me to get a nice steak. Coming from Texas fantastic steak houses... More

The place is fantastic with view to the kitchen. Food was excellent but expensive. Unfortunately the service for that place was very slow and not well trained.

Walked in off the street and was a first shocked at the prices. However, the staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere great. Mainly a steak house and the meat was plentiful and delicious. Very good choice of wines.

I had the oysters (smallish ones from New Brunswick) and clam chowder (quite good actually), and have had steak here before. While the food is decent, the ambiance lively, it strikes me that the whole place needs a bit of updating. The restaurant certainly has lots of history, and some of it should likely remain, but it does seem to... More

This is probably my favorite Boston steakhouse, and that is intended as high praise because there are a number of worthy contenders. We had a private room for a large group-there are a number of such rooms on the second floor. The food is excellent, the drinks are strong, and service is very good.

Staying in Back Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
