This is one of our favorites! We love the Chinese Herbal Broth best. The seafood supreme platter is wonderful!

This is our favorite restaurant by far! Food and service is always consistent. Reasonably priced. Always our go to for date night! The only negative is paying $20 to park across the street - but that too is cheap for parking in Boston. FYI - try the strawberry shakes and grab a watermelon shake for the road!

Food and service is always good! Price is more than reasonable! Cost is about 20 per person .I can not believe that they are asking me to go on.

Took a chance dining here as did not have any reference to go by. Loved sitting at the "bar". Got full training by a very friendly waiter. Fun experience I would recommend.

I suggest checking out the youtube channel vahidrvahidr and watching Boston Down episode 2 for a great video review of this location. Read on for our written review. Japanese hot pot style restaurant, Shabu zen is the epitome of relaxed dining for me. I've been coming here for over 10 years now and hope to continue that tradition. Dining here... More

I used to go here a lot years ago and as always the meat, seafood and vegie are fresh. Especially hot green tea and sweet soup for deserted. Visited again today very disappointed that combo plate with meat, seafood and vegie dishes were cut in half, service wasn't that good like before and no more sweet soup for desert and... More

Great hot pot place. Expensive but well worth it. Meat, vegetable and seafoods are always fresh and the broth is to die for. Drinks are ok, nothing special. Service is ok, nothing exceptional. So the 5 stars are given specifically for the food only.

Came here for late dinner. This seems a cross between the Japanese Shabu-shabu and the chinese hot pot cooking styles. I found the food not "unfresh" but not super fresh (as should be for this type of cooking style). Choice of soups is also limited, with the herbal soup that someone(s) in the restaurant is having creating a distinct aroma... More

For a shabu restaurant this place is a bit dirty and the service isn't great. Shabu as a concept is really bad. It's like a disassembled ramen. You're presented with a bunch of raw vegetables and a plate of frozen meat. Which you take turns to dunk into a bowl of boiling broth. The results are generally par boiled and... More

This place was just what we were looking for while in Boston for a family getaway. Great variety at inexpensive prices. We were especially fascinated by the vegetable hot pot, really interesting selection of vegetables! We got there about 11:30 an 12pm the place filled up fast.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
A small area rich in Chinese cultural influences, visit Boston’s Chinatown for some great Asian cuisine and small, authentic bakeries. Enter through the iconic Chinatown gate and stroll down Beach, Tyler, and Kneeland streets to explore the compact area. Rest your feet from walking and grab a bite at one of the many restaurants around Chinatown. From traditional Chinese to Vietnamese to Malaysian, there is a wide range of Asian food available, within easy access of South Station. At night, Chinatown becomes a late night food destination after the bars close.
