The Taiwanese dumplings deserved a 5, the beef stew on noodles not more than a 3 (not much meat and quite fatty), so…? Well the starters arriving far after the main, the minimalistic service (quick was its only quality) and the plastic spoon (scandalous both...for the customer and the environment) definitely make it a 3. it was not bad but I expected much better. Prices reasonable.More

It's located right at the heart of Chinatown. As I'm from Taiwan, I'd say some of the dishes are authentic, yet some are not. But, who cares about authenticity if it tastes good, right? Our top choices: Sauteed Beef with Long Horn Pepper (Spicy) Mini...Steamed Buns with Pork Beef with Tendons and Tripe (Spicy) Simmered Chopped Chicken with Three Essences in Hot Pot Spicy Beef Stew Noodle Soup with Spinach (Spicy) It's a great place to enjoy Chinese food, so definitely come here for a quick bite.More

Giant menu, but we had the Chinese scallion pancakes which were delicious, Taiwanese pan fried dumplings and schezuan wontons with chili oil and peanut sauce, spicy salt and pepper shrimp and L17, a chicken and veggie stir fry. They were all delicious! Especially loved the...shrimp and pancakes. Not fancy, plastic dishes, efficient service but go for the great meal!More

I can get past a lack of atmosphere in a restaurant if the food and experience was great. Unfortunately Taiwan Cafe failed in all three areas. Styrofoam cups, plastic utensils and food brought out so fast, we had no room to put anything between courses,...let alone finish them, were the least of this establishment’s problems. The food was, well just not that good. Hot and Sour soup, a favorite of mine was way too spicy to be enjoyable. The fried dumplings were nice but the dipping sauce ordinary. The noodle dish was fine but virtually no pork or vegetables as ordered. The most disappointing was the Duck in Soy Sauce which was, well, chopped up duck in a plain bowl of soy sauce. I guess I thought it would have more flavoring than just soy sauce from a bottle but my expectations were way too high. There are better options at better prices with much better atmosphere. I know many people love this place and give it great reviews, I’m just not one of them unfortunately.More

Do not pass on the fish filet hot pot with mustard greens. Velveted filets in a surprisingly flavorful simmering broth. Braised eggplant. Spongy tofu. Terrific.

Unprepossessing from the outside and up some rather steep steps, this restaurant is in Boston’s Chinatown. The food was tasty, large portions - three dishes shared between three hungry people.

One of the better tasting restaurants in Chinatown. Ordered the pork belly, braised duck and friend rice. Food was delicious although very oily. Quick service.

I had eaten in Taiwan Cafe whenever I found myself in Boston, in 2009, 2011, and 2013. Now it's 2021, and I found it totally changed. I was surprised when I saw only a few customers around 6:30pm, the prime dinner hour. The Taiwan Cafe...in my memory was packed. After this meal, I don't blame the customers who no longer return, as I'll definitely not go there again. The food quality went way down, and the service was bad. To add insult to injury, they charge you a 18% tip automatically. What would have been a $60 or so meal became $98 in this restaurant.More

The best banana pepper and beef dish around. Been ordering this dish for years and love it every time. They were pretty busy but unsure if reservations are possible.

Want a quick dinner for 2 people and the place says it offers Taiwanese food. It was filled with Chinese customers. We had stir fried potato strips, pan fried Taiwanese oyster pancake and Taiwanese stewed beef noodle. All 3 are terrible. We never had such...bad Chinese food. Oyster pancake was super oily with about 5-6 baby oysters, otherwise it was mainly yam flour to make it big. The stewed beef noodle was not using beef tummy meat but thin slices. The potato strips were soggy and cut short. We had lots of leftover which we never did. Price is very cheap and portion was huge, but that’s it. If you want quantity and cheap price over quality, go for that. Rarely give 1 star but it deserves that. The men’s washroom is filled with conditioner instead of hand soap... customer service is terrible...More

This was my first time to eat in Chinatown in Boston. My work colleague, originally from Hong Kong, brought me here. He ordered from a very long menu but knew it well. We had the most delicious spicy fish, soup dumplings and edamame with bean...curd. Sorry I don’t remember the proper names but I enjoyed the food enormously. I had eaten at high end steak and seafood places for the previous few nights and this was so refreshing! I agree with other comments re service and perhaps cleanliness but I thoroughly enjoyed this experience.More

My husband and I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. When you eat out, you expect great food and good service. Taiwan Cafe has neither of it. The menu is confusing and long. The hostess/waitress was rude, inhospitable and cold. She has very little...patience and does not entertain questions. The food was not fresh either, and probably was recooked. This restaurant literally left a very bad taste in my mouth :( This was the only time we left unhappy from Chinatown :(More

Have been here a few times for lunch, it is a small place, very popular and tables fill up quickly. The service is friendly and fast. Food is well prepared and fresh. Soup served before the lunch entrees is hot and sour - very good....Favorites are the Salt & Pepper Chicken chunks, and the Sauteed Beef with Celery.More
