You could be forgiven if you took 1 look and walked away. DON’T This is the genuine article. Just a counter with a few seats so don’t go with a big group. Want to feed a big group order the platter and take it home. You will barely dent your budget!

Avana Sushi (Beach St location) is located in a food court type building in Chinatown, so we love it more for a take-out place than a cozy restaurant to dine in at. We have lived in the Chinatown area for the last 7 years and this is our go-to spot to order from - best value, friendly staff, always quick turnaround and reliable!

If you want to grab some basic sushi and are close, absolutely go. All I can say is this is average (atmosphere, quality, price, experience).

The lunch special is a pretty good deal. I wouldn’t come here if you are trying to find the best sushi or rolls but if you want a good fresh light lunch for $11.50 it’s a good choice. You get 2 rolls, 2 nigiri, and miso soup for $11.50. The sushi was pretty good, fresh, but the rolls were just ok. It’s a good deal though for Boston. It’s in a small “food court” with very limited seating. They take card but it’s best to have cash for most places in Chinatown.

We eat at Avana with 6 persons. Place is small but we could be seated by moving two tables together. The sushi was on of the best I had. Drink selection is limited but really good value for money.

Very good sushi at a very good price also ! We took a platter for two, composed of 56 maki, with different flavors and fishes, super good, for $40 in total. We will come back for sure !

The sushi here has some issues, although they seem to be using good quality fish. The sushi rice was served still quite warm and overcooked such that it was mushy. We switched to just ordering sashimi and found the fish to be of good quality. Overall, their inability to make correct sushi rice would prevent me from ordering any maki there. I would stick to sashimi and maybe a roll or two that has enough stuff in it to hide the poor sushi rice.

Very tasty, fresh and creative sushi variations. It‘s more a takeout than cosy restaurant, but very good with reasonable prices.

We asked our daughter to take us back here on our most recent trip to Boston since the sushi is soooo good. We ordered a combination with enough food to feed all of us which came to $63. It was a lot of sushi, both simple rolls, fancy rolls and nigiri. Delicious.

As the food scene in Boston really starts to pick up, prices will start to go up with it too. Avana is a hidden gem both in the fact that it's literally hidden in a kind of a tiny food court in Chinatown and the fact that it delivers good sushi at a better price. Sushi places are opening up left and right in Boston offering expensive things on the menu that taste great and look even greater. Avana is the opposite... they offer no frills sushi (apart from a couple of specialty rolls) for really reasonable prices. If that's what you want, and refuse to go to a supermarket with day old sushi, this is your place. The seating are probably seats about 20 people or less so you'll be able to watch the chef make your food in front of you. The service is quick and the chef is friendly. If you even dislike the sushi you have 3 or 4 other options of food you can turn to instead so options are definitely not lacking in this little food court.

My friends and I stopped in here for lunch. The lady who served us was very nice and helpful when we asked questions about the menu. The sushi was delicious, we ordered a second round of sushi rolls they were so good. My only negative comment would be that the rolls weren't well presented, honestly they looked like they were thrown together. The presentation just didn't match the good tasting food. But would I go back? For sure.

We arrived quite late to Boston and I just google mapped "sushi near me" and found this. Apparently this place is popular for take out which probably means the sushi is good. We sat in simple plastic chairs during ordered the sushi set for 4 people. The sushi was quite good. Very good value for the price

Our conceirge had made two suggestions for a Saturday around the Financial District. One of Monument (awesome) the other was Avana which was reported as good not great... In the heart of Chinatown we found Avana. One might miss it though as signage was not apparent and there are two restaurants in the same space. Seating was mixed between two establishments: a ramen house and Avana sushi. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. The place was clean and interesting albeit small. With sushi for us, quality is everything. I test this with their yellowtail. The cut matched the reasonable price however the quality was lacking. The spicy tuna roll was on the small side, medium to heavy on the spicy-mayo sauce, and average tasting. We also had unagi which was on the dry side. Overall, it as an average experience for a reasonable price. If we had to do it again, we would search out a top 10 or 20 ramen house and have that.

Chinatown
A small area rich in Chinese cultural influences, visit Boston’s Chinatown for some great Asian cuisine and small, authentic bakeries. Enter through the iconic Chinatown gate and stroll down Beach, Tyler, and Kneeland streets to explore the compact area. Rest your feet from walking and grab a bite at one of the many restaurants around Chinatown. From traditional Chinese to Vietnamese to Malaysian, there is a wide range of Asian food available, within easy access of South Station. At night, Chinatown becomes a late night food destination after the bars close.
