I went here for dinner with colleagues while visiting Boston for a language conference. I live in a city that doesn't have Spanish food, so I always try to look for Spanish cuisine when I travel. I have to follow a gluten-free, dairy-free diet, and I am a vegetarian, so finding food I can eat is often a challenge. Estragón... More

Most of what we had was very good but that is fine, when you order so many little dishes some are bound to be better than others. Great cocktails. I would go back and try other items and get some of the same. Excellent service.

Loved Estragon. Small plates, so keep ordering. The crispy artichoke hearts are amazing, loved the goat cheese/tomato on toast, beef tongue, bone marrow, skirt steak was okay, grilled octopus (not my favorite, but the rest liked it, lamb chops are awesome, breaded pork loin was dry and disappointing. Cocktails were great!

I think this is the best tapas spot in Boston. I've been coming here for years. Estragon is a nice, neighborhood spot, not a see and be seen type of restaurant. Also, the food is can't miss, chef Julio always delivers, amazing variety of tapas, always fresh and tasty. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable (ask for Brian!). Good... More

We tried Estragon with two other couples recently. We were excited to order a variety of plates to share and eat! Our waiter was pleasant and helpful. We tried both types of octopus( grilled baby and Spanish octopus) beef cheeks, toast points (steak and cheese, bone marrow, pork belly and artichoke), goat stuffed peppers, garlic shrimp, lamb chop over cauliflower puree... Spanish food is phenomenal but it requires a bit of a mental shift from American. It is most often traditional, high quality, depending on the flavor of the ingredients rather than spicing. It is also pretty inexpensive. Spending $8 on Gazpacho is silly, which is my explanation for why Real Spanish cooking never took off in the US. Estragon's fault,... More

"Estragon Tapas Bar: your slice of Spain in the South End". Are you kidding me? When discussing the concept of "tapas" and how to order, the waiter replied, "Well, this is the USA, not Spain!" UGH! Worst dining experience ever! 1) The waiter got our order wrong, and food had to be returned to the kitchen, 2) the "Dates with... More

This is my second meal at this restaurant in recent months. The tapas are tasty and well made with a broad selection. Both times the paella was off; the first time it was too dry and almost chewy while during the most recent meal, it was too soggy. While there is a fun wine list that predominantly consists of Spanish... More

I am from Spain and i can tell you I think this is the most authentic Spanish restaurant in Boston! The food was delicious and the menu as close to a Spanish menu as I've seen here! This is why it's my favorite from all the Spanish restaurants here! This time we sat at the bar, and loved that experience... More

We were looking for a light meal and searched for Tapas. Estragon came up as an option and it was nearby. The bartender was friendly and the drinks were generous The atmosphere was OK although it was a Wednesday night and it seemed like the kitchen staff were ready to go by 9pm. We liked the fried artichokes and the... More

Staying in South End

Neighborhood Profile
South End
Stroll down the beautiful brownstone lined streets while capturing views of Boston’s tallest buildings from a distance. Some of Boston’s best restaurants are scattered around this neighborhood. There are many gems to be found, from jazz clubs to classy bars and restaurants. It is also home to art galleries, interesting boutiques, artsy stores and SOWA open market during the summer months. The South End is a true find in the city, with a more residential feeling than Back Bay.
