My husband and I were in town to see Paul McCartney at Fenway Park. We were going to walk to Fenway and stop along the way to eat dinner. Lir looked very inviting on a late Saturday afternoon. We chose to sit at the bar and eat. The bartender was wonderful and the food was delicious! My husband had a... More

I give the place a terrible rating because the staff are sullen at best and downright rude at worst. I have been a few times because they show the Rugby and Soccer games for a $20 dollar charge. Went there recently for match & some food the bar girl was frankly beyond rude, first she was inattentive and then started... More

The food at the Lir was nothing short of spectacular. Every bite was succulent and it was accompanied by equally impressive service. The environment isn't bad but you don't necessarily get the "real" Irish pub feel, however it is still an awesome venue worth trying. (Pictured below is the Kerry Stew which comes in a bread bowl with mashed potatoes... More

I've given this a terrible rating which is slightly unfair, as the place and majority of its staff are decent. The reason it deserves this rating however is purely because of the manager we encountered last night. After a bill and tip mix up, my friends and I were leaving the bar only to be followed out of the place... More

The bar can be raucous during sporting events and because it is a relatively small space with a huge square bar in the middle, tends to be a little crowded. This day was no different, the Arsenal fans were in top form after a 4-0 score. But, this review is about the restaurant. A "pub" menu, lots of drafts and... More

I always try to find good, even in a poor dining experience. This place had very little. We walked in and asked for a table and were told by someone that they believed there was a table upstairs near the back. We sat in the only remaining table upstairs (and this isn't implying it was busy, as there were only... More

While in town for the Boston Marathon we tried Lir and were not disappointed. Food was good and service was too considering how busy they were.

What's to say? It's an Irish pub. We all went out for beers there while at a meeting in Boston. College basketball was on. Clientele was friendly and respectful. Beer was cold. What else do you need?

Visited here on our recent trip to Boston, mostly because they had advertised that they were showing the 6 Nations rugby championship. Unfortunately they didn't advertise that they were charging $20 for the previlage! OK place with good range of drink. Served food too but we didn't bother on this occasion, apart from a quisadila which my wife and I... More

According to the family Lir has the best Guinness in town!!! Centrally located and always friendly staff and one of those wonderful places to sit, see the game and feel like part of the family. Great food and apps at amazingly low prices! A must visit when I go shopping on Newbury Street!

Staying in Back Bay

Neighborhood Profile
Back Bay
Wander around this quintessential neighborhood in the heart of Boston for high-end shops, restaurants, and the feeling of city bustle. Its most identifiable skyscrapers, the Prudential Center and John Hancock Tower, are highlights of the city skyline. Visit Newbury street to explore unique and trendy boutiques – as well as every other kind of store imaginable – all housed in beautiful brownstone buildings. In nice weather, restaurant patio seating is packed with Bostonians and tourists alike soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the food. Commonwealth Ave offers a beautiful stroll down residential tree-lined streets. Keep walking towards the Charles River and enjoy a beautiful view by the water. In warmer months, people run and bike on paths running along the esplanade, and sail and kayak on the Charles River. Boylston street, also full of shops, bars, and restaurants, is the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Head towards Copley Square and check out the Boston Public Library, which is particularly beautiful from the Dartmouth street entrance.
