This is an upscale/fine dine Indian restaurant and may be only such option Asheville. I have to admit I have been by far disappointed with all five of upscale indian restaurants I have visited in US. This was the worse of all, the food only looked Indian. We were a group of 6 visited during the fall season and for... More

I am kind of an Indian Cuisine snob, which I can't help when my husband is from India. I will give you his two cents: Food is average, made more for American taste. Sometimes the increase of spice is use to cover the lack of authentic taste. We went on a Monday night, so not overly busy and waited 45... More

Food is excellent, fresh, and always the best. We have visited almost monthly for about 5 years, and never have been disappointed. (EXCEPT when they took the Orange Chicken Sause away for short time...) But that's been a while ago. LOVE IT.

Ok, so i stopped in on a whim and i had the buffet. Im not impressed, the only thint i liked was the chicken masala and the chicken was cut up small enough. I definitely regret coming here when i could have gone to a better restaurant. Regardless, i ate my money's worth and it was only $11. Ive been... More

My wife and I have been fans of Mela for a long time, and the food has always been good, but yesterday we both had the best meals we've ever had, and we were told by our server that the previous chef has returned. I had a shrimp dish with jumbo shrimp in a Masala sauce, and they were absolutely... More

We have been to Mela's several times and it remains one of our favorites. We stopped here before going to a concert and had a reservation which was a wise choice. Within 10 minutes of being seated, the place was full. The food is delicious. We started with Peshwari Nan and it was fantastic. I had the tandoori chicken and... More

A lot of Asheville old-timers seem to have a nostalgic fondness for Mela, which I believe was the first Indian restaurant there. After several years of eating elsewhere, we decided to try it. First, I should note that we've lived and traveled in India and have eaten plenty of Indian food. Properly prepared, each dish should be uniquely seasoned and... More

This was the best restaurant I went to during my short stay in the Asheville. I am a little biased because I love a good Indian buffet. The price was about $11. They have a great selection of mostly vegetarian fare. The service was top notch even though they were quite busy at noon on a Friday. You will probably... More
