I recently dropped into the adjacent bookstore to look for a map. At first, I wasn't thinking of having coffee. I hadn't had a great cup on the entire 9-day trip and I was a bit off of it. Without expecting much, I ordered a cappuccino and it was excellent! Addiction restored! Thank you, Malaprop's, for the shot I needed.

We heard all good things about this hot spot for book lovers in Asheville. We had fun browsing around - this place is so enticing because it has hard copies of books that are not always found easily in major booksellers. This may be a controversial comment but I actually enjoyed the sister store, Downtown Books & News, more because... More

Stopped in to get out of the rain. The downtown is so busy; this is a welcome respite. We got a huge 'chocolate cigar.' So decadent. Also a chai latte, which had this great spice flavor in it. Nice place to hang out. Staff was helpful, there's a person stationed right by the door so you can ask questions right... More

Malaprop's is in all the guidebooks for a reason - it's a wonderful old-school independent book shop with knowledgeable staff who read what they sell.

Love, love, love this book shop, which always has an interesting selection, including staff picks and lots of books of local/regional interest. Love the selection of knick knacks, literary miscellania, and humorous magnets. It's clear that this shop functions as a community gathering spot. We make a point of stopping in every time we're in Asheville and spending a few... More

Malaprop's is locally owned and seeks to support local/regional authors of all genres as well as carrying nationally-sold titles. They host frequent signings or lectures of interest to the community and are involved in improving the quality of life for all. Books for all ages are available and the staff is very knowledgable. They have a cafe in-store

Whenever I travel on business with work colleagues, we try to find a local independent bookstore and I usually go right for the regional nonfiction section. Malaprop's has one of the best. I love the vibe in this store, which is part of Asheville's vibrant downtown atmosphere. Selection is good, whether you're looking for books, gifts, or a good cup... More

The bookstore is a throwback to decades ago. It has survived in a day where online book sellers have put a lot of other book retailers out of business. The bookstore has a lot of very interesting events to capture the local reading audience. They have popular books but also very unique and local books. The bookstore is a highlight... More

Good for browsing and buying. Especially for local information and literature. My personal favorites were the "yay" magnets that were featured throught the store.

Needed a latte. Needed a new read. And voila! Malaprop's Bookstore and Cafe was there to meet my needs. I had a delicious salted caramel latte with just the right amount of sweetness to fuel my hours of browsing in their amazing bookstalls. I came away with some delicious new reads from their well-curated regional fiction wall AND the lovely... More
