My wife and I stopped in planning to have NOLA-style dishes. But the waiter spoke so highly of the swordfish and crab cakes that we had those instead. I used to have swordfish frequently when eating out but have gotten away from it. I usually...More

While visiting the Asheville area, we happened to have Hurricane Irma come for a visit. Looking for things to do, my son looked up restaurants with great ratings. The hard part was finding a dog friendly restaurant. Well, Mayfel's fit the bill. Now safely out...More

Dang. Sounds like a 5 star review to me. Kept waiting for the "but", only it never came. Seriously, though, thanks for the kind words. Glad we could be your shelter from the storm, and provide a great experience to boot. See you next time!

We ate at Mayfel's after a day of hiking. The smoked trout dip was so delicious... I would have eaten a mountain of it. Muffaletta, etouffe, and fried catfish were solid. Outstanding remoulade sauce with the catfish. Excited to go back and try a short...More

Being raised on Louisiana cookin' I was apprehensive to try Cajun/creole in North Carolina. Our service was great, the frog legs were good but not worth $10 for two legs. I had the shrimp and grits and they were the best I've ever had. Gulf...More

We stopped in for dinner while visiting Asheville. The food was incredible and portion sizes were more than enough. The staff is friendly and service was quick. We will definitely be back!

The price is not dirt cheap but you will get superb food. I had the seared fish which was delicious. The waitresses are friendly and it is a unique restaurant with some local cooking. There is also outside eating summer and winter.

4 of us went to Mayfel's on a Saturday night. With luck we were able to secure a table on the front patio, which is an excellent place to watch the creative types that make up downtown Asheville. You are right in the heart of...More

The "creative types" can certainly be entertaining. Glad you had such a great experience with us! If you want to check out the courtyard, make sure to come back before the weather turns, as it's only open seasonally. (The patio is open year-round.) Thanks for...More

My wife and I had dinner at Mayfel's after listening to the drummers in the park just across the street. The drumming served as a nice background to a really good meal. I had the catfish. It was lightly breaded with good flavor, but the...More

"Best Cornbread Ever"! Yes! Thanks for the great review. Hope to see you again soon.

Food is good. Service is what brings this place down. A bunch of too-cool-for-school tattooed millennials who are apparently just discovering what we did in California 30 years ago. I guess the hipster-doofus vibe takes awhile to reach the mountains of NC. Anyway, once you...More

Wow, you seem really friendly. Have you ever considered the possibility that you don't get good service because you behave like a rude jerk? Glad you think California is so far ahead of us ("too cool for school", huh). You should probably just stay there....More
