Awesome service, value and food (taste, freshness, variety, GF.) An extensive menu for us GF folks with items like GF fried chicken w/gravy and GF bread pudding. My husband is not GF but loved both these items. It was hard to believe they were GF.

Early Girl was within walking distance of our hotel, so we decided to come here for an early dinner. We walked into the restaurant but couldn't find anyone working, so we opted to sit outside and eventually a server came by. Our server was friendly...and mentioned that only three people were working that night. I placed an order for the cinnamon biscuit French toast and asked what the seasonal fresh fruit topping was, and she said she thought it was peaches. My husband ordered the apple berry salad topped with a grilled chicken breast. Then we proceeded to wait and wait and wait. They kept apologizing and were very nice saying the food would be out shortly. There weren't very many people there, so I'm not sure why it took so long. We waited between forty-five minutes to an hour. At long last, the food came out, and it was very good. My cinnamon biscuit French toast was topped with blackberries, rather than peaches, but that was fine with me. The flavor was excellent; I would have liked a more generous serving of fruit. I only received about seven berries. My husband really enjoyed his salad as well - very fresh, and the serving was generous. Overall we thought the food was very good, but waiting close to an hour and their being that understaffed was a little disappointing.More

Came highly rated but we guess we were looking more for a regular diner type place for breakfast. Grits are not normal stone ground we are used to, more like an oatmeal, very coarse texture. Home fries were way overdone. Our grandson did order their...version of french toast which was biscuits with cinnamon, whipped cream, syrup and loved it but overall, just not what we were looking for and quite expensive.More

**We ate at the south location on Hendersonville Road, but they are not listed in Trip Advisor. Sad, sad breakfast. We’ve eaten here a few times before and it was just okay. ( We used to love the Wall Street location.) The service today was...slooooooow. Main complaint is the “scrambled” eggs. We are guessing the cook started doing fried eggs then realized the order was for scrambled, so he popped the yolks and let them sit. Dry, zero flavor. Who messes up scrambled eggs like that? Grits were not to our taste, but maybe that’s just what organic grits are like. Asked for cheese in grits- don’t think there was any. Biscuit was fine, nothing special. Spouse’s meal was acceptable, but nothing exciting. We probably won’t try them again.More

Place we had planned to go to was closed so opted for Early Girl. Both my grandson and I loved our meals. The jam they have is wonderful and my margarita was refreshing.

We were in Asheville for a wedding, had a large crew for breakfast (13 with children) so got there early. They didn't want to put tables together because it would upset the servers, they said there was no server for outside and asked us to...wait 10 minutes initially, which turned out to be 25 minutes. They finally sat us even though the server they were expecting was late. 18+ patrons were seated while we waited, not counting the patrons who received service at the outside tables, so there was no reason to ignore us. Maybe they hoped we would go away - we didn't. The server we did get was great and the food was good but lesson #1 - don't make your problem the customers problem. If we knew enough about the area we would have found somewhere else to go. The server was taken care of (not their fault) but we never went back and can't recommend. There are too many really good restaurants in Asheville to elect to be treated like we were.More

My gf & I had breakfast here when in town for a girls weekend. Solid breakfast ~ delicious pancakes, good eggs & yummy breakfast potatoes! Short wait at peak time so no complaints there. Service was solid as well.

This morning my husband and I had a very nice breakfast here. The restaurant was fairly empty, which was very nice at 8:45 AM. Service was prompt, and very friendly. Decor is a little on the minimalist side. The restaurant is much larger than it...appears from the front. There is also outdoor dining, which is nice on a really good weather day. We started with coffee which was a little on the unusual tasting side, but good. I had the spinach and potato cakes with fabulous tomato gravy, and scrambled eggs and a really excellent biscuit. My husband had two eggs, a biscuit, grits, and bacon. The grits were extremely large grain. We would’ve given this restaurant five stars, but we didn’t like the fact that there was an added charge for the cheese on the grits, which nobody told us, and was not mentioned on the menu. Also prices are high, even for Asheville.More

I first ate at Early Girl in 2008 and was pleased that the food and service is still outstanding. The Spinach and Potato cakes which are served with tomato gravy, biscuits, and eggs is delish! My friend ordered Bow to the King which are fried...chicken tenders paired with cinnamon battered biscuits and covered with whipped cream, fresh fruit and maple syrup. Best food coma ever! Looking forward to eating again at Early Girl on my next visit to Asheville. Believe the hype, it's worth the wait.More

I ordered the world's easiest meal to make: Scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and gluten free toast. The eggs were cold, hard and rubbery, the potatoes mushy and obviously reheated and sat under a heat lamp, the toast inedible cardboard and the bacon was forgotten. Embarrassingly...horrible and the manager was good enough to comp it. Meanwhile there's a huge line to get in so maybe I just got unlucky? Still hard to imagine how something so easy could be made so poorly unless it's just how it's done. Am giving two stars because wife had the breakfast bowl which wasn't half bad.More

We were excited to try this place, and honestly I wanted to give a better review. They were busy, wait was 20 mins, totally understandable for a Friday morning. Drinks came quickly, luckily I ordered a coffee and oj for myself, because once our order...was taken, we never seen our waitress again. So my son ended up drinking my oj and I made sure to take it slow on my coffee. Food came out pretty quick, I had the pot roast breakfast and he had the 2 egg scramble. Mine was Luke warm, with the eggs barely even that. His was about the same. Flavor was just OK. Finally waved down the hostess to ask for our ticket, which then had to ask her when passing again who I needed to pay. Really wanted to enjoy the place.More

Stopped in for an early brunch on a busy Saturday and sat at the bar. I ordered a spicy Bloody Mary and the chicken biscuit sandwich with grits. The bartender was super attentive and the service was prompt and efficient. The food was okay- grits...were a little bland. They were kind enough to pour me a mini creamsicle libation to try which was a nice touch.More

There are a lot of great places to eat in Downtown Asheville. With a well done kitschy vibe, creative dishes for vegetarians and gluten-free folks, and locally sourced ingredients, Early Girl eatery may be the centerpiece of brunch culture. Asheville was one of the last...stops on our tour of the Carolinas and we managed to get here before the crowd avoiding a longer wait. I immediately went for the Biscuit French Toast as part of your responsibility traveling through the south is to have as many biscuits as possible...so turn it into French Toast and you've got yourself a date, mister! This was a super-tasty dish, definitely indulgent, but worth it. It's served with roasted apples and whipped cream. It's yummy in a big way. My gluten-free wife had the Heirloom Organic Grit Cake Stack, a savory dish that was both vegan and gluten-free. It was also heavy and rich, but she liked it a lot. You don't go hungry here, that's for sure. The Jaghead coffee was as strong as it should have been...more on the acidic side than I prefer, but certainly top-notch on its own terms. There is a lot to choose from here if you're vegetarian and/or gluten-free and the menu is helpfully labeled with "v"s and "gf"s so it's easy to spot what you can eat if one or both of those diets is your thing. If we lived in Asheville, this would be a mainstay, frequently brunched at place, and the very first place we would send everybody for breakfast or brunch if they were new to town. Thanks for the memories, Early Girl! P.S. They have mimosa flights available...although we didn't get one, clearly there is something for everyone here.More
