We used to frequent Zen Sushi until we learned it is the 2nd Best Sushi in Asheville. Just behind Green Tea in Asheville # 2 Regent Park Blvd by Sams. But in downtown area Zen is closer and worth a visit.

We stopped through for lunch recently and were pleased with our experience. The service was fast and thorough and the waiter was knowledgable. The miso soup was hot and well-flavored. The sushi was good with rice that was properly cooked - not sweet or too vinegary. Prices were all reasonable. We ate outside and cannot speak to the counter service. The only negative was the shopping center itself which is not well maintained.

We ate here a week ago, March 27th, and Cam was our server. We got the the restaurant later at night, and few people were in the facility. Cam seated us at in the corner, at the most comfortable booth/table. He was a most attentive waiter, and you could tell he was genuine, sincere, and enjoyed his life and being there. We felt very taken care of and our waters were always filled, and he even noticed we were out of the regular soy sauce ! He made some funny jokes with us about doing a magic trick with the tray filled of soy sauces, and it was very enjoyable. Thank you Cam for your presence and wonderful attitude!

I spent $75. I got 3 stir fry chicken and vegetables and other things. When I opened the packages there were some vegetables and a few small pieces of chicken on the surface and the rest rice. 95% rice and 5% vegetables and tiny chicken pieces. I had guests at home and I was serving them. Boy, was I embarrassed. They, like I, remarked that never had we experienced an Asian restaurant giving 95% rice and 5% vegetables and small chicken pieces. I will never go to that restaurant again and I will lodge this complaint with every review service to make sure that nobody else experiences what I experienced. They should be put out of business.

I just love Zen Sushi. I started going there way back in 2003 and it is always delicious. The owner and staff are friendly and attentive and we always have a pleasurable experience. We love the lunch specials!

Things to love.
1. Jennifer and her staff are great. Of course there’s turnover; there’s turnover at every restaurant, especially over 17 years, but we have found the staff to be consistently excellent. Sometimes there will be a server who has a bad attitude or doesn’t know the menu, but they are replaced pretty quickly.
2. They have Hamachi Kama. Not every restaurant has this, and it’s wonderful.
3. Extensive menu of both traditional sushi and Americanized sushi. My son only eats chicken Katsu, or California rolls. Or spicy crunchy rolls. I only like things like Toro and Hamachi and Hamachi Kama and uni. The menu has plenty for both of us.
3. They have lunch bento boxes! They also have other lunch specials like the two-roll special and the three-roll special that are really good deals!
4. Outdoor seating! I know the restaurant faces Merrimon, but it’s not on the street, it’s up on the balcony, so that tempers some of the Merrimon noise and dust!
5. They remember us when we come in, and not just Jennifer. The servers remember us, they remember my order, they will tell me what they have that’s fresh that day that they think that I will like.
6. The indoor area is cozy but also bright because of the windows.
7. One time when my son was four, he dropped a favorite dinosaur figurine down the back of the booth. Then he sent another one in after it. 15 years later, and I’m sure it is still there, but Jennifer was so sweet about trying to help us retrieve it. Booth is attached to the wall except that little crack, so we weren’t going to demolish the seat. One day they will remodel and find both dinosaurs.
Thanks Jennifer for almost 2 decades of sushi with us!

By far the best sushi restaurant in ALL of Asheville and HAS been for 20+ yrs! LOVE ZEN! The Joeski roll, and the spicy Kani salad are amazing!

We had hibachi chicken and steak and shrimp with soup, salad, fried rice and Krazy Dragon sushi special. We all enjoyed our meals. Great service too.

Serving inside and outside / it’s located on an elevated level so you’ll need to climb steps. Staff are friendly - food is really good

Went on Valentines Day. They were extremely busy but the staff were very attentive. No wait and great customer service. The sushi boat is amazing. I would recommend.

A small place situated upstairs in a row strip mall. But you can watch the men slicing your sashimi. I love the sushi and tempura. But my absolute favorite is the Tempura Banana Split!!!!

My family and I have eaten at Zen Sushi many times, but on a recent visit we noticed the quality of their sushi has gone down. It wasn't bad, but we definitely didn't enjoy it as much as we used to.

The menu is extensive with many choices other than sushi. Prices are reasonable and service is great. We eat here on a regular basis and have never been disappointed.
