Black bear did an amazing job catering our wedding! Brisket, burnt ends, and pulled chicken with all the sides were to die for! Couldn’t recommend better catering for an event! They also donate any leftover food to the VA which we loved! Thanks again!

Wonderful bbq and some great r&b and soul music just added to the meal. Great choice of sides just made it all that much better.

We ordered several Thanksgiving items from them this year to reduce kitchen time. Oh man, these guys knocked the turkey out of the park! The smoked turkey was amazing. The vegetarian in our group enjoyed the meatless option as well. If we get back to...Asheville, we will be visiting again!More

We just finished having our daughters wedding rehearsal dinner at Black Bear. Everything was awesome. The tables were decorated. The food was amazing and A J and Autumn were great to work with. Would definitely recommend them to anyone considering a special event. And they...were very affordable.More

Great place to eat BBQ, great service, friendly staff and amazing BBQ. I was here on Friday; Burnt End day. The sands was one of the best I have ever eaten.

Nice staff but very covid controlled, which is not an issue but seemed to be the most excessive that my wife and I encountered on our vacation. Had the pulled chicken, pork and brisket. Meal included baked beans and corn bread. The pulled meats were...so-so bit were bland without dowsing them in sauce. The pulled chicken had a few small bones in it. Wife had chicken salad and said it was okay but not stellar. Location was tucked away but not too hard to find. Wouldn't plan on going back but may in a pinch if needed.More

We have eaten here on their picnic tables in the corner of a strip center but take out during this time is more usual. The BBQ is very good and the sides and desserts are very good also. Eating onsite during Covid is on outside...tables in the small corner of a strip center (not recommended) . Might try again when inside dinning is available.More

Thank you for your review and your support during the pandemic. Is is definitely less than ideal for sure. We are happy to say that our dining room is now open so we hope you will stop back in soon!

Looking for a place to stop for lunch and based on the reviews the Black Bear BBQ was a safe bet. We were so wrong. The BBQ was not as good as Doughties BBQ and that is not saying much. You definitely need to plan...ahead because there are no restrooms and no dine-in. This is not a stop when you have been traveling. I wished there had been a more thorough review before we got off the road and saw that this place was hidden in a shopping center.More

It’s become apparent to me that they will throw whatever they want in your takeout bag without warning you that it is not what you ordered. I’ve visited several times and not once has the order been 100% correct. I like the food, so I...come back. However I’m pretty fed up with never getting what I asked for. I’ve brought it up with the servers and they promise better service but have not delivered. Could be a great restaurant if they gave just a little more effortMore

I had traveled from PA to visit Family. Some of the Family and I decided to go for a joy ride around Asheville. My cousin wanted to stop some where to eat, he drove into this little shopping center and there was Black Bear BBQ....The food was excellent, I really suggest the Sweet potato crunch, in fact my cousins wife ordered it and we decided to order another it was so good! ha ha I believe we could have walked out the door with a gallon of it if we could. Have no idea what the last review was talking about (Laura) the type of review she left...was rude. By the way Laura...the restaurant was very clean, floor to the tables and we were met with friendly staff and our BBQ was very good and we liked how you can pick out your own sauce at the sauce table. I would recommend this place, we stopped for lunch and loved it!! A+More

After 3 visits, I won’t return. 1st visit: a small roach crawled over our salt shaker, we just got up and left mid meal. 2nd visit: “brat night” which includes a 2 1/2in brat. It was a joke for $10. 3rd visit: the absolute worst...Brunswick stew ever. My bbq didn’t cover the bottom of the bun. I even asked if that was normal, I guess they changed the buns recently. Sides are bland and little effort out into the menu.More

I asked the concierge at my hotel where the best BBQ in Asheville was. She sent me to Black Bear BBQ. Excellent choice. My only regret was that I didn't have time to eat there more than once. I had the pulled pork with a...sweet BBQ sauce, baked beans, Brunswick stew and cornbread. Very reasonably priced. I was happy with the moist and tender pork. Asheville has lots of choices for barbecue. Black Bear ranks among the best. The chicken was really moist; the brisket delicious. Portions are not overwhelmingly large, but everything is delicious and made with fresh ingredients. Keep an eye on the specials. On our recent visit...they offered creamed spinach made with goat cheese; not something you’re likely to find at other local places. While not on the beaten path, it is well worth finding!More

Stumbled upon this place by accident and decided to give it a try. I’m picky about BBQ and it’s not my favorite food but this bbq was nearly the best I’ve ever had. Several menu options to choose from and very reasonably priced. The Mac...and cheese was off the chain as well! And the broccoli casserole was really good too. Love that you have a variety of different bbq sauces to choose from. Will definitely make this a top on list to visit when I’m in Asheville.More
