His restaurant is quite small and quaint. Floors slope a bit. Food is excellent. Service is somewhat slow with only one server for the whole restaurant. Great German beer! We will visit again!

We found this gem when the restaurant we came for was closed. Our good fortune. The sausages, Reuben and schnitzel we had were excellent. The salad, slaw but particularly the sauerkraut. Our server made us very welcome and really took the time to help us select the right items. We were full, but split a strudel, it was plenty for... More

We happened to be in Asheville for the VA hospital. Went hiking afterwards and had heard there was a German restaurant in the area so we Googled it and this came up. It didn't seem like much from the outside, but it is quite an experience from the food to the atmosphere! We tried a lot of the food: Schnitzel,... More

Allow me to preface, we've lived in Germany for a number of years dining out whenever we could. While the restaurant's decor makes a person feel they're in Germany, the menu offering much of what is there, a couple of the entrees fell a bit short of the mark. Going traditional I went with the Jaeger Schnitzel, Goulash Suppe (Soup).... More

There is nothing more disappointing than to go back to a restaurant that you loved and find that the food and quality has gone down and the price has gone up. The only thing that seems to have stayed the same at the Bavarian is the good German beer and the charming atmosphere in a old log cabin. This was... More

I am sorry to hear you feel that things have changed, and they have to a certain degree - most for the better. We still use the same recipes as the original owner, however, the original owner was PASSING OFF PORK AS VEAL. With us, if the menu states veal, then it is veal you get. Also, we actually narrowed... This is great authentic German food, they make their own pretzels and mustard...start there. They also make their own sausage, so good. Not many options for vegetarians but it is german good. You will feel like you are in another country right when you walk in. Great German beer too!!

I always enjoy my visits and their beer selection. I came solo for an early dinner on a late Saturday afternoon and had a mixed opinion for the first time. Their hefeweizen on tap had just been replaced and was still warm and thus unavailable. One of the specials was locally raised Hasenfeffer which I was told was very popular.... More

The Bavarian Lodge has been on my list to visit for some time, and finally went in last night with my partner. Classic atmosphere of a biergarten, very warm and inviting. Our server, Janice (one of the owners, as it turned out) was warm, friendly, and happy to answer our questions. As my SO is of German heritage, she's quite... More

Went with friends because it was German food and because we had a certificate - what a great place! It didn't seem like much to look at from the outside, and once we were inside we were struck by the taxidermied animals (which really only served as a reminder of one of our favorite authors) but we realized that the... Our family enjoyed the great food and friendly staff. If you're in the area it is a very good place to go. Authentic Bavarian food is often hard to find. Not in Asheville.
