Grabbed sushi and some apps. Busy and popular spot. Service was fast and attentive in the sushi bar. Great selection of sushi to choose from.

Terrible service experience tonight, at Ichiban. Called at 4 PM to book a reservation for around 7 PM. Was told that all reservation times slots are full. Okay, I get that, since I called same day. Was told by the person on the phone that...the restaurant has plenty of walk in seating available and held open. I said okay, so if we come at like 6 PM we should be fine, and the person said absolutely. At 5:45, I called against to check and was told by the person on the phone that it was a 10 minute wait. Got to the restaurant and was put on the wait list for 35 minutes. The host apologized, and said they got a “last minute rush”. You know what avoids those last minute rushes? RESERVATIONS - which you said were all full! AND THEN they want you to wait in the car! They took phone number, and said they would text you so please go out to your car. Of course we didn’t do that. We found a great restaurant in DT Asheville to patronize instead. We visit Asheville often and will never come this Ichiban location. Way too many dining choices out there to support.More

Tremendous amount of good food and sitting at the grill was super fun! Our grill master was funny and made the experience memorable!

The food is really good here but the service is very poor. This is likely due to the 18% tip being added to the bill so there is no need to provide decent service. The restaurant is not providing menus and wants you to look...up their menu on your phone. Social distancing was pretty much nonexistent. They'd have one space left between the parties but all eight of the tables were filled at one point of the evening so there were too many people inside to meet the state requirements. Dart was the cook and put on an amazing performance and the food quality was top notch. I ordered the shrimp and filet. It came with fried rice, vegetables, broth soup and a salad. But the service was horrendous. I should have listened to the other reviews. Jessica B was the waitress and had to ask for the drinks to be repeated as she was either very forgetful or not writing them down. She even got my refill wrong after asking if my tea was sweet or unsweet. Then when it was time for boxes for the leftovers, she asked if I wanted a box and I told her yes, and I waited and waited and waited. At some point she brought them to the other side of the table but never brought mine. Eventually (at least 30 minutes later) I asked the busboy as it was clear she was never going to bring the box and didn't care. She was friendly but just not good at waitressing.More

So the food was good. That was the only thing good. We made a reservation for 5 for my son's 8th birthday. We were seated for our reservation time. Our waitress was not as attentive as we would have liked. We had to ask for...things multiple times. Also, we weren't told that their menu was posted at the door for us to take a picture of, then look while at the table. After that, they seated a party DIRECTLY next to us, definitely not social distancing. We had to scrunch together to make some space between us and this other party. This was followed by the most boring hibachi show ever. Our chef did not do anything for the show, aside from the onion volcano. He spent the whole time talking about his unemployment with the people seated next to us. No acknowledgement of the birthday or anything. Then, they add an 18% tip to ALL parties. But, they don't tell you that either. You have to go back two weeks into their Facebook posts to find it. It's not on their website either. Asking to speak to a manager, none came, so I asked again on the way out and was told, yes, I asked and they said they were busy. Finally speaking to one, we got nothing but lame apologies and an almost complete lack of care. In these days, if you're going to spend your money out, spend it somewhere else. Somewhere worth it.More

We had a little wait to get a table and waited 20 minutes before asking the person working the front to find our waitress. Then we got something to drink and they took our order. The salad and soup came out quickly but our food...came out much much later (a good 20 minutes). The waitress apologized but the food was barely warm except for the rice. Then we had trouble getting drink refills.Just poor service all the way around.More

This lunch was a disaster. 3 of us opted for the hibachi table and waited 45 minutes for 2 more people to come before they started cooking and this was at 12:15 when we got there. Service was horrible. The chef made zero small talk...- he asked how we wanted our meal cooked and then didn’t say anything for the rest of the time. No show, no fire, no twirling of utensils. Nothing. One in my party didn’t want his rice so I requested the chef split it between myself and other guest on my ticket but instead he opted to give it to the other couple at the end of the table then looked at me and laughed. What a jerk. We got our drinks filled at the beginning of lunch then never saw server again until the check came. Poor service, poor chef, poor experience. Asheville is far to big with so many other restaurants offering better so we will not be back.More

We have been dining at Ichibans since 1995. Zero problems, great food and excellent service. The consistency of quality over the years is amazing. You will enjoy!

My family and I visited this restaurant several times successfully, had personable chefs, good wait staff and tasty food. We visited for lunch on Black Friday and sat with other families at an hibachi table. We had very pleasant visit with each other while we...waited some time before the table filled enough for a chef to begin the meal. When the chef arrived, he attempted humor, but it quickly became dark. He had been to his ex-wife’s the day before for Thanksgiving. We got far too much information about his failed and negative marital situation that he needed to endure because of their kids. At one point, a lady at the table had asked for fried rice without egg due to an egg allergy. Rather than just have a little pile of rice separately on the side to which he did not add egg, he asked all other dozen plus patrons to eat their fried rice without egg. At one point, someone asked his name. He said it was donkey and he made he-haw donkey sounds and said he would not give his name because it would just be used to issue a complaint against him. That question stimulated more negative behavior. Rather than give us a little show like usual, he skipped that part. This is my only negative experience with Ichiban Asheville, but it was a very uncomfortable dining experience that we will not be repeating any time soon. There are a lot of good restaurants in Asheville so our family is planning on giving this one a little time before we return.More
