We just happened upon this place while diving from Fort Lauderdale to Naples via Highway 41. The kids were hungry, and the “Cold Beer” display outside was a welcome sight for the adults. What great find. This is a classic old Florida dive bar and...it did not disappoint. Don’t let the appearance and decor keep you away. The food was great, the service outstanding, and the drinks cold. As for the previous reviews complaining about Covid protocols, when we were there, most patrons had on masks when not seated at a table, and the restaurant does have a screened in porch with tables, as well as a few tables outside if you aren’t comfortable dining indoors. We will be back if ever in the area.More

My first stop in Florida on this trip, having driven in to the Everglades area from Miami. Waitress did not wear mask at any point. Despite me keeping mine on, asking to sit outside and making clear I was concerned about the virus, she did...not respect personal space, and repeatedly spoke very expressively over me and my food. The food itself was good, I had a salad with fish, and enjoyed it- the waitress was friendly, but I also was taken aback how her topics changed when another family from the south came in and her jokes turned a bit racist. I guess it was a bit of culture shock.More

We stopped here after an airboat ride at Wooten’s. We heard from friends that Joanie’s is THE place to go for crab and she did not disappoint!! The food was great! We had a combo platter, crab cake salad, crab sandwich, and a burger and...fries. Everything was great! The service was good and fun too. We appreciated the relaxed atmosphere with our kids. Clean bathrooms too. Cold drinks. Couldn’t ask for better! Thanks!!More

This is a great place to stop and even if you don't get anything to eat (although the food is great) you can get a drink and read all the items on the walls and just look around. They said all the items were sent...by former customers.More

Great food, and a fascination piece of Old Florida. Grouper was the best I have ever had, and they also serve great Blue Crab, Frog Legs, Alligator and other great local foods.

really 3.5 rating. recommended by staff at Big Cypress National Preserve. Really the only dining spot nearby. Florida seafood specialists. Kitschy, swamp style décor and a waitress full of p*** and vinegar. Quick with a dirty(ish) joke. My wife went with the crab cake sandwich...which she enjoyed but also lamented the lack of sweetness that comes with our Dungeness crab at home. I chose the days special, a chili lime sautéed catfish filet that I chose to do as a sandwich. The fish was very fresh and cooked perfectly. A little light on the chili lime flavor but overall, with the added sautéed onions and house sauce, delicious. The roll it was served on was not quite up to the task of holding the sandwich together but not a big deal. Both meals came with crinkle fries straight from the freezer that were undercooked. Finished with a slice of Key Lime Pie which had a delicious light filling and flaky crust. Surprisingly-to me anyway-it was topped with a dollop of Cool Whip. This meal was good but, being out in the sticks, you’ll pay a premium price-$60.00.More

I ate here twice in January 2020, on my way to the Florida Keys and on the return trip. The first meal was excellent. I had a fried fish sandwich that was cooked just right; it was moist, flavorful, and hot. I also had a...slice of key lime pie that was so creamy and yummy. I definitely wanted to return to Joanie’s on the way back a week later, and planned my departure to be in Ochopee at lunch time. Alas, the second visit didn’t live up to my experience the previous week. The food was okay, but nothing special. I ordered the same thing, but it wasn’t at all the same. The fish sandwich was overcooked, and the key lime pie was dry and hard. I don’t know if it was a different cook, or a bad day for the restaurant, or if I had inflated expectations. I would still try Joanie’s again, and hope for a repeat of the first meal. By the way, the waitress is an absolute hoot, and that was the same on both visits!More

While the bathrooms are not for the young (adult pictures on wall), this place reminds me of roadside cafe's of my youth. Self serve drinks (beer, pop), one waitress/cook roaming around taking care of people, and a very laid back atmosphere... this place won't be...to everyone's liking. This restaurant is very casual, with a mish mash of furniture and a country, homey feel. Parking is ample, with an abandoned gas station next door. Food was good, if a little expensive (but justified with how hard it is to get things delivered in the swamp). While we were there it was relatively busy, being the only stop for many miles in either direction. Grouper sandwich was good, Burger good, beer cold... all good things. Obviously a way point for bikers crossing the state, and for travelers to the swamp, is an interesting spot. Be warned though, hours may change for when they are open. Eclectic and interesting... food with an attitude.More

We enjoyed the local food at this restaurant. We did not look for other restaurants as there aren’t any within 40+ miles.

I suggest that it be left alone. It is a bit of Americana as it is, and a neat surprise for a wanderer looking for sustenance while on the road.

Yes...there is a ramp leading up to the outdoor deck which is on the same level as the main floor.
