My family has been buying crabcake sandwiches, fresh crabs, and other seafood from this place since starting to spend summers here in the early 1970s. There was a big hiatus when the kids were small and we risked them turning their nose up at something....Now that our kids are older we went back for a crabcake sandwiches one time, shellfish another, and fish another time. The crabcake sandwich was delicious, & came with a leaf of lettuce, a slice of tomato, pickle, a roll, and A tiny container of tartar sauce. We asked for cocktail sauce and they provided it. However the meal seemed awfully expensive at $16. This may reflect the fact that we have not been going out much as a family, and that we have not gone out at all during Covid. We know that crabs have become far far far more expensive than they used to be. Our experience with shellfish was a little more disheartening . We didn’t realize that they would run out, and they didn’t have much left by the time we arrived. We bought mussels and clams. I asked for specific instructions on clams, since I had not cooked them at home previously I was told that they have the same steaming time as muscles. That was cheerful News, because it suggested that I only needed one pot. However, once I began steaming them with parsley and garlic, the little neck clams would not open. The mussels opened beautifully. Having built my dinner around shellfish, we went ahead and ate the clams, even though their opening was either delayed or nonexistent, and we’re still alive. It was frightening however. The fact that no one could give me accurate information and there was no interest in ensuring that I got the best experience from these expensive little beauties Was disappointing. I also was disappointed that I got so little information about the sourcing of the fish, which I purchased on another recent visit. The person at the window was not able to tell me, even after asking questions of others inside the store, whether any of the fish were caught locally I am not obsessed with with this subject, but had hoped to support local fishing operations, if at all possible. No one could tell me whether any of the fish had come from the area. The salmon we got was Wonderful, and I made a delicious dinner of it , if I do say so myself.More
