Old OLD Italian woman and her daughter (?) send the foccacia out the door.as.quick as folks walk in. Again, you don't get waited on as much as here ya go, pay up.and beat it but who cares? It is... Our first experience with Liguria was Dec. 23, our first visit to SF, years ago. There was a line of grandmothers OUT THE DOOR. My wife said, "whatever these guys are selling, it has to be AMAZING." We got in line with the grandmothers, who gave us the quick run down -- "Tell them you want a rosemary. And an... More

It's hard to find good food in the US. This is the genuine deal. Great ingredients and a wonderful woman who wraps your bread in paper with string. Buy this amazing bread, (rosemary, olive, raise) walk to the pier and buy cheese and fruit and pickles at the farmers market. Buy wine and glasses at the kitchen shop in the... More

I have been to this bakery three times over the past few years. Others have mentioned how unpleasant the people who operate the business can be. In the past and wasn't so oppressive that I had to run away screaming but I must admit that last week almost brought me to the brink. Came in with wife and my two... More

Liguria makes the most delicious focaccia. My favorite flavors are pizza and mushroom. I especially like that they can cut the focaccia to small pieces for the kids. It's also a great hit at picnics. Be warned that once Liguria sells out, they close for the day so go early. :)

Most delicious foccacia bread ever! We bought four "slabs" (pizza, mushroom, onion and rosemary/garlic) to keep in our condo and it fed us during the entire vacation. They haven't deviated from perfection is all these years. Thank you!

We arrived there around noon and they were already running out almost all the different focaccia (the guidebook we had said that this happens so we weren't surprised), so we order the garlic one and it was just delicious!!! Tasty, tender and big slice of focaccia for $5. I definitely recommend to stop there if you can.

Almost thirty years after my first visit, not much has changed. Same Butcher paper and roll of string, same long lines, still get yelled at for buying too much at one time. Same lovely women serving the best bread EVER. LOVE Liguria. Parking is tough, tears will be ahead when you double park (towing) ticket (early and often here.)

We selected the raisin and pizza foccacia before heading out to sightsee. The size is great for the price but I would not say it is the best. The sauce on the pizza foccacia was more of a paste than sauce. The raisin was light but could use a touch of sugar to balance the raisins. Like most of the... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
