We were introduced to Cafe Zoetrope on the Big Bus tour. We couldn't have been more excited to hear that this was Coppola zone! We're such big fans of him and his wines that we just had to find our way back here after the tour. The bartender was quite accommodating and told us some interesting nuggets about the place... Located just in front of where I was staying, Cafe Zoetrope is located on the lower floor of a stunning building in North Beach Area. I had such an exquisite pizza. Delicious!

It was the striking appearance of the Sentinel Building (aka Columbus Tower) that first caught our attention. Cafe Zoetrope is located on the street level of this gorgeous flat-iron building. We learned that the building and the cafe are owned by Francis Ford Coppola. American Zoetrope, the film production company founded by Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas and now... More

Unplanned stop for a bite to eat and a drink. Seemed strange that the wine list did not show prices by the bottle. Only had a brunch sandwich, but this was great and very tasty. Nice decor that is very interesting.

High expectations, big fan of Copola, knew he was a great wine producer and gourmand so expected Italian- American heaven. What I got was overpriced tourist slop. A carbonara which looked more like a soup than a pasta and an overpriced supermarket plonk. Decor was nice though.

We walked into zoetrope in an iconic flatiron after a very disappointing birthday dinner for my daughters 17 th birthday the previous day . Things couldn't have been more different . The waiter was lovely and service was great. My teens as avid readers loved the story printing machine and the funny memorabilia in the cafe . Lunch was pizzas... More

This restaurant, owned by Francis Ford Coppola, is in his flatiron building. The interior is very attractive and the wine list, mostly Coppola wines, is very reasonably priced. The food, disappointedly, is only average. I was disappointed. I really wanted to like this place.

Great place. Good vibe, charming setting, attentive and knowledgeable staff, nice food and not too expensive and plenty of FFC for the fans. Oh, and a wine list to die for!

Must see place in San Francisco. We had a nice lunch and we were positovely surprised of the moderate pricing. Nice place!

We continue to be happily impressed with this lovely little gem. The space is really fun, lots of Coppola memorabilia to look at, but it's not a "museum." There is serious food going on here. The wine list is predictable, but since it's Coppola wine, that's a good thing. The prices are really reasonable, both for wines by the glass... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
