The Market Street Grill is the perfect location for lunch before seeing a show at the Orpheum Theater. The staff is used to dealing with patrons who need to meet a curtain time, and they are very good about getting your food to you in a timely fashion. The menu is somewhat limited, but what they do have, they do... More

Whether I'm staying at The Whitcomb or just in town for business/recreation, I make it point to stop at Market Street Grill. Unlike a lot of restaurants, whether its for breakfast, lunch, or dinner the meals are superb. Consistent deliciousness! Also, no matter how busy it may seem at times you'll still receive excellent service with a lovely atmosphere as... More

The restaurant is part of the Whitcomb Hotel. The hotel lobby and restaurant are absolutly marvellous. The dining room has a fireplace at one end and the hotel bar at he other. The guy tending the bar is outstanding. He has probably been the barman since the hotel opened and he literally owns the bar. You can't help loving him.... More

My friend and I found this little gem across the intersection from the Orpheum Theater. We didn't have time to sit down for dinner so we opted for cocktails and appetizers. This restaurant is wonderful! I had my first Moscow Mule (delicious and refreshing). We had the truffle fries (light and tasty), and the quesadilla was packed with flavor with... More

I was early getting to the area where my show reservations were made, thanks to the ever efficient BART system. I decided it was time for a cold Bud before I walked over to get in line, I needed to kill 40 minutes or so. I saw the Whitcomb Hotel Bar, part of the Market Street Grill, from the street.... More

Went there before a show due to proximity and good reviews. Inside is worn, dimly lit and outdated. Service was good. They have many items on the very limited menu marked GF for gluten free. That was a significant reason we choose this restaurant. We choose 3-4 items labeled GF and none were gluten free. When we asked if they... More

We picked this restaurant because of close proximity to the Orpheum Theatre (across Market). The room is not very lovely, but the service was prompt (thank you Yolanda) and the food was good. The banh mi chicken sandwich was excellent with a variety of flavors and just the right amount of spice.

We ate here for breakfast every morning and the food was lovely, the portion sizes were great and I struggled to finish a meal. the only thing i struggled with was the slow service and the struggle they had to understand my British accent.

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
