Very friendly staff, though service was a little slow, particularly with checking in after we got our food and after asking for the check. As others noted restaurant is quite loud. I expected more for a restaurant so highly rated In such a high quality food city like SF. Overall the food was pretty good, but that's it. I am... More

First impressions were friendly, loud, & lively. Great atmosphere on a busy street corner. It seems like everyone was speaking in Italian which gives it an authentic feel. Very friendly waiters, and service was spot on. Our food was good but neither me or my wife thought it was great.

This is a vibrant restaurant. The waiters are busy singing, talking to you, making you feel like family & very welcome. By the way the food is wonderful too. Old Italian movies are played on the tv, music is playing, waiters are singing & calling to one another, people are laughing, having a good time while enjoying their meal. Like... More

Never would I have thought my mum's Puglianese cooking could be rivalled but here it was. The BEST Italian outside of my mum's kitchen. This was amazing! My vitello al limone was succulent, zesty, tender and melt in your mouth delicious. It was without fault as were the rest of our dishes. What made the meal all the more memorable... More

Friendly atmosphere with outstanding service from the waiters. Tasty food with perfectly sized portions. Overall great experience and I felt the only thing that could have been improved was that the noise level was a bit overwhelming, but I guess that just adds to the vibe of the restaurant.

The food was decent, I had a pizza Italiana which I felt was a bit tasteless. On the other hand, both the waitress and the atmosphere was very nice!

The atmosphere is fun and lively. The waiters treat you like family. We sat upstairs in a small seating area and felt a little far removed from the festivities. The caprese salad was incredible. Pizzas were thin and crispy. Wonderful tiramisu. As you leave the waiters hug you! A fun place.

I was on business with a group and one guy took his wife here on a Monday and raved about it, so the whole group went back on Tuesday. We loved it so much that I took a friend back on Wednesday. It was THAT good. The pastas are all house made, the lamb chops were incredible, and do not... More

Went because of the good reviews. Rang to reserve- which was sort of pointless. They said yes to our reservation at 7.30pm (Americans eat very early by English standards) but when we arrived the place was heaving and we had to wait nearly 45 minutes anyway. The staff were very friendly. The food was good home cooked Italian fare. It's... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
