The food was fresh and delicious. The service was very personal but not invasive. The chicken thighs were very good but the flank steak was by far the best I have ever had. The fish was cooked to perfection and the presentation was great -...More

Sushi with an urban flair. Unique sushi creations and a willingness to customize upon request. Ultra hip bar with fun concoctions...great happy hour spot in the financial district. Also has outdoor seating...terrific spot!

I'd read reviews that PABU was overpriced for what it delivers or going downhill, but I didn't find it so. Its prices are fairly typical for this kind of San Francisco restaurant, and if the bill adds up, it was worth it. At least for...More

Popped in to Pabu in the Financial District for sake at the bar and stumbled across this great POPOS (privately owned public open space) and discovered that there are dozens of these dotted around San Francisco. This one outside of Pabu at 101 California was...More

Went to Pabu on August 4, 2018, our third time. From the squash blossoms special to the chicken, sushi, & gyoza, it was relatively bland and tasteless. Well prepared with reasonable ingredients, the chef failed to create much tasty flavor. This evening was different from...More

I was recently at a conference in San Francisco and had dinner with a group of conference participants. The food was nothing spectacular, as well as the atmosphere. The service was fine. In short, nothing to write home about. The food was average and the...More

Have been here before for dinner, which was very good. Came here for drinks with colleague and great again. Place is definitely one of the classier places downtown and very good.

As an Izakaya, Pabu fulfills its promise in perhaps the most complete way in the San Francisco market. There are numerous izakaya in Japantown and the financial district, but none better than Pabu in food quality, sake depth, and overall experience. The quality of the...More

Well sometimes we are craving a good sushi...made with the perfect rice and fresh fish. If you are walking around the financial district in San Francisco, this is your place. We tried the gyozas, spicy roll, rainbow roll and soft shell crab roll. None of...More

Financial District
The Financial District lies just east of Chinatown but
can seem a world apart given it’s San Francisco’s
version of Wall Street. The rush of business people
make up a hectic weekday and add to a frenetic pace of
life, but visitors who spend a few hours walking the
narrow streets will be rewarded with fine examples of
historic and contemporary architecture, including the
iconic Transamerica Pyramid. After business hours,

In partnership with Michael Mina and Mina Group, this modern izakaya and sushi bar in downtown San Francisco is a dream brought to life for Tominaga and Mina. Located at the landmark 101 California space in San Francisco's Financial District, PABU combines rustic, old-world Japanese charm with modern, urban sophistication to create a dynamic, social dining experience. An À La Carte Menu is available in the izakaya and dining room highlighting seasonal small plates, traditionally grilled items from the robata and composed entrées. Favorites include Chef Ken's award-winning sushi and sashimi, fresh tofu, and tempura.
