This place was great! We went in for a late appetizer- about 9-11pm we were there on a Friday night. No wait, busy place, kinda feel like you're eating with everyone else as it's crowded..... stiff margaritas. Overall the guacamole was our favorite-so good!! We also got some really good pork thing- small serving size- and the desserts were excellent... More

I'll put out there that I found Colibri expensive. USD$70 for a dinner for one including a single margarita and tip seems a lot to me. Maybe this normal in SF. Price aside, the food was exquisite. Started with toasted tingas, then had the relleno chile with pork, followed by chocolate pastel for dessert. The only slightly negative comment was... More

We went on a Sunday night at 8:30 without a reservation and were immediately seated in a very nice roomy booth. People continued to come in after us so even at this late hour a reservation is advised. The service was excellent and our server was very pleasant. She informed us that the chef was from Oaxaca, which accounted for... More

What a delight to find. Excellent menu selection. Great service. The food is genuine authentic Mexican. The guacamole was so delicious and can be spiced to your liking. The tortilla chips are homemade. My carnitas was fabulous ! I highly recommend this excellent restaurant.

We enjoyed a late brunch at Colibri Mexican Bistro near Union Square. The guacamole and margaritas fit the bill after a morning spent on Alcatraz. Entrees were unique and mole good. The churros with caramel sauce delicious and a shareable dessert.

This is a good place with a few interesting items on the menu for happy hour from 3pm. I had a dish which was spicy, chocolate chicken! Very different.

Was twice and the quality of the food and service was really excellent. Price acceptable. Better to make a reservation also for lunch time.

Hadn’t been here in two years. I remembered I liked it and the food was great. Actually more like exceptional. Definitely not Tex-Mex—much more authentic and elevated cuisine. Service is great, bartenders talk up the patrons. Will come back on my annual visits.

Description
Colibri Mexican Bistro lies in the heart of San Francisco's bustling Theatre District, just a block west of Union Square. Spanish for "hummingbird," Colibri combines the simplicity of authentic family recipes with fresh, high-quality ingredients to bring diners unparalleled, delectable Mexican cuisine in a charming, turn of the century cantina setting. This warm and inviting eatery is reminiscent of Mexico City restaurants of the 1900's, decorated with classic Spanish paintings and accentuated by a vast collection of uniquely shaped and rare tequila bottles. Filled with energy, Colibri projects black and white 1940's Latino-film clips at the front of the house, while the open kitchen in back provides glimpses of its colorful cuisine in different stages of completions. Boosting a knowledgeable staff and attentive, sociable management, Colibri is dedicated to providing a memorable dining experience for both tourist and locals alike.
