good margaritas - both traditional and with mezcal. Had several food items and all good - chicken and brisket in particular. bartenders are busy but good to talk with. a little expensive for what you get, but it is good and not the traditional, too common, american version of mexican food.

On Chestnut Street there are lots of good restaurants. Mamacita is one of them. It is spacious, with good ambience and most important, great food and margaritas. We had a salad and tacos, and both were excellent. Margaritas were very good, with a good choice of flavours. Flan with cheesecake was a dessert highlight. Very good overall.

I love Mexican food and this was by far one of the best I have ever had. The appetizers were excellent. We shared 4 of them. For our meals we all got different tacos and shared them. All were really good. The goat tacos I could eat every day. This was the first for our friends who live in SF.... More

My husband and I LOVE Mamacita. We come here each time we visit San Francisco. We were in The City for just over a week early July and we ate at my favourite restaurant three times. The food is nothing less than divine. They use local ingredients mostly from their family farm - and each morsel of those ingredients are... More

Did a house swap (with our kids!) and this is one of the places they sent us. Saturday night on Chestnut Street is a hustling bustling atmosphere so don't expect quiet and romantic. This place is packed. Service was great. Food was really tasty (we "shared" two different taco plates and a couple of beers. The tacos are tiny, sort... More

Excellent moles and creative dishes. The chicken enchiladas in a flavorful mole were wonderful. I had a red sopa that was mildly spicy and had a complex chile profile, a very good soup!

Tried this place for tea one evening, and it was nice. Food was tasty and filling and the staff were friendly. I would probably say that it's a little expensive for the amount of food that you get though.

My husband and I went to Mamacita and had an experience so good, I continue to think about how great the food was weeks later! We started - and finished - with too many blood orange/thyme margaritas. It's a good thing we weren't driving! Definitely one of the best margaritas I've ever had. We adjoined our fabulous drinks with guacamole... More

Dinner at Mamacita. We could scarcely believe the extremely high noise level when we sat down, but things started off fairly well with good chips and guacamole (offered as we sat down, with no mention of the $10 price), tasty salsa, and an OK margarita. I asked for spicier salsa, and they brought a bottle of habanero hot sauce; it... More

Staying in Marina District

Neighborhood Profile
Marina District
Beautiful homes, beautiful people, and a beautiful backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge welcome visitors to the Marina. Originally the location for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 (whose remnants can be seen at the Palace of Fine Arts), much of the land was filled and flattened to accommodate a world’s fair. That ample space has given way to a jogger’s paradise at the northern edge of the city. With the picturesque bay setting as its backdrop, it’s no surprise that the area has hosted numerous movie productions. Daytime activities focus on café culture and boutique shopping, while the evenings turn this neighborhood into a party-going hotspot.
