Situated atop Knob Hill, the Mark Hopkins Hotel is truly the most elegant hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff is most welcoming, and attentive to your wants and needs. Dan Sotelo is the Chief Concierge. Sean Belluscio is the assistant General Manager. I Contacted both ahead of our visit to celebrate both my wife's Birthday and mine. The service... More

The hotel's location is crazy, right at the top of Nob Hill, and the view from the top floor lounge is great. The hotel has great history too and some of its traditions are still carried on today. Only thing is that the building is getting a bit tired and could use a facelift. Other grand buildings have done so... More

This hotel sits on one of the highest points in the city, so it offers great views from the top or from some of the guest rooms. Our room was clean and comfortable throughout the stay and we found it very easy to get around to different areas of town. You can catch a Cable Car right outside the hotel... More

We stayed one night for one of our periodic forays into the city to get away from pretty-mic-nothing-to-do Petaluma. We'd never been to the Top of the Mark and we had ressies at a newly-open sushi place. I'm a member of the IHG frequent stayers, and we were greeted warmly. We were offered "extra points" or a tin of chocolates,... More

The hotel truly is average but I rated it as poor because it's an average hotel at an exhorbitant price. Mattresses were very uncomfortable. I think they tried to disguise the poor mattress by putting a feather bed down but it didn't help. Saggy and not supportive. Room smelled bad, like some other odor had been covered up. Bathroom smelled... More

It's nice place to enjoy sunset in San Francisco while you are drinking cocktails with some appetizers. We tried small burgers. It is not easy to get a table though - we waited for ours for 30 min at the bar next to lobby. The service was a little bit slow butthat might be because this place is full of... More

My Hotel stay was very comfortable and accommodating. Close to China Town, and Shopping Center. At Top of largest sloped street... I guess that's why it's in the Nob Hill sector of San Francisco.. Prepare to walk a hard incline if not taking a cab back.. If looking to take in the Fishermans Warf, Seafood Experience, and The Golden Gate... More

I've stayed atop Nob Hill before (at the Fairmont) but this was my first time at the Mark Hopkins. The hotel is known for the Top of the Mark and the views from there did not disappoint. The rooms are small, and decor is old fashioned, but in keeping with the style of the hotel. Beds are comfortable, bathroom fairly... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
