We were here for a two day business meeting and enjoyed the facilities. A very nice old hotel with very nice facilities. Very comfortable and the rooms a very nice with all of the amenities you would expect.

The hotel truly is average but I rated it as poor because it's an average hotel at an exhorbitant price. Mattresses were very uncomfortable. I think they tried to disguise the poor mattress by putting a feather bed down but it didn't help. Saggy and not supportive. Room smelled bad, like some other odor had been covered up. Bathroom smelled... More

It's nice place to enjoy sunset in San Francisco while you are drinking cocktails with some appetizers. We tried small burgers. It is not easy to get a table though - we waited for ours for 30 min at the bar next to lobby. The service was a little bit slow butthat might be because this place is full of... More

My Hotel stay was very comfortable and accommodating. Close to China Town, and Shopping Center. At Top of largest sloped street... I guess that's why it's in the Nob Hill sector of San Francisco.. Prepare to walk a hard incline if not taking a cab back.. If looking to take in the Fishermans Warf, Seafood Experience, and The Golden Gate... More

I've stayed atop Nob Hill before (at the Fairmont) but this was my first time at the Mark Hopkins. The hotel is known for the Top of the Mark and the views from there did not disappoint. The rooms are small, and decor is old fashioned, but in keeping with the style of the hotel. Beds are comfortable, bathroom fairly... More

Fantastic setting, smart concierge but small lobby where it was difficult to find assistance for morning coffee location. Later discovered the small breakfast bar beyond the lobby. Asked to see Top of the Mark cocktail bar but was told that the lift did not operate until 4pm and there was no other way up. Returned to lobby which has minimal... More

Thankfully we were only there for one night before heading to Napa. The outside is old an and charming. The inside is old, dirty, and overpriced. The rooms are TINY! The furniture was chipped and covered in dust. There was a dirty qtip on the bathroom floor! And the mattress was so awful that we didn't get any sleep. Breakfast... More

Supportive staff and comfortable rooms. Location is good, though the return walk from downhill can be a bit tough.

If location is everything to begin with, then add the views, convenience, the actions, styles and reputation then you will find yourself right in the middle of everything. It's like on top of the hills of every actions you can imagine, 3 famous SF Cable Car stops literally just around the corner from the hotel not along the Cable Car... More

Staying in Nob Hill

Neighborhood Profile
Nob Hill
Swanky and stylish, Nob Hill sits in the heart of the city and is home to amazing architecture and views. The hike to the top can be a challenging workout for those who forego a cable car ride, but they will be rewarded with some of the city’s most beautiful architecture adorning its peak. Originally populated with mansions after the Gold Rush, most if not all were devastated in the 1906 earthquake and fire that followed. Luckily all is not lost; storied hotels and Grace Cathedral surround Huntington Park. Having a drink or dinner while taking in the sunset and views at the "top of the Mark" is tough to beat.
