We waited for the 5:00 opening. There was a couple in line from Chicago who had seen the Dives and Diners episode and we're giving it a try as well. We chose the Mongolian beef sandwich and the curry smothered shrimp burrito. Amazing flavor and unique combinations! We walked to AT&T park easily after. There is done in but small... More

HRD is a small storefront restaurant offering a contemporary play on Korean flavors. There are two long family style tables and counter table in the front alongside the window. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. I got a Korean chicken salad bowl which was excellent. Check out the artful presentation, too. The staff is friendly and they run the... More

I've been driving past this place for years and never even looked at it...until I saw it on an episode of Food Network's Diners-Driveins-Dives show. Have been in numerous times since.

Chef David Yeung took over the original 1950s HRD Coffee Shop in 2009 and transformed this joint to offer Asian, Latin and North American fare. From kimchee burritos to curry platters and po' boys, there are plenty of hearty options to choose from for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.

Asian-American fusion food in a casual dining setting. I had beef tacos with pineapple salsa, which were tasty and cost about $10 for a very reasonable portion. It's not haute cuisine but it's definitely worth trying, and the service was very friendly.

Though lauded by many, HRD Coffee Shop is just a greasy dive with salty, so-so food. Prospective patrons can identify HRD Coffee Shop on a somewhat gritty block of Third Street in SOMA by the line of hungry diners snaking down the block and by the plume of greasy air wafting out the door. HRD is a dive, plain and... More

I must say, I was a bit disappointed when I found out they didn't have any coffee. No dessert either? This restaurant united two cuisines. Korean and Mexican. I ordered the Chicken Kimchee burrito. Plenty of chicken, plenty of rice and vegetables. Not much flavor though. I was expecting more WOW! I was expecting for flavors that added excitement. I... More

This place is no longer the cheap diner it started out as. It's still in the same location but they've remodeled and given the place a face lift. Place was featured on the food network show "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives" but this place is deserving. The food is still super delish (think of the top trending food trucks) except... More

Coffee shop, it is not. Excellent flavor, supreme service, and super fast it TOTALLY is. I was amazed that my 5 year old daughter LOVED it! The sous chefs behind the counter interacted with me and my daughter, suggesting items she would love. My husband ordered the kimchi spicy pork burrito and I had the smothered katsu shrimp burrito. The... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
