Family of 4 from London, we spent 5 days in SF at the end of July. Staying at the Mark Hopkins we wanted to find a decent place for breakfast nearby. We ended up eating here most days. The people working there were lovely. Great...breakfast, loved the corned beef hash, and they gave as fruit tacos on the house every visit. Thanks New Vilage Cafe!More

We chose this place as convenient to the California Street Cable Car on Polk. When we arrived there was one server managing the counter and all the tables. Clearly something had gone wrong with staffing. She did an amazing job keeping her cool whilst trying...to do everything, making coffee, answering the phone, and collecting orders from the customers and food from the kitchen whenever time would allow. Customers collected their own cutlery to help, helped themselves to coffee, and one even bussed tables. Our orders came and my Eggs Benedict was missing its English muffin leaving just a swamp of egg and hollandaise sauce swimming around the plate. I asked the server when they arrived to help where this was and they were very apologetic. The other breakfast (eggs combo) was fine but mine really was not very nice. Not writing this place off as clearly previous reviews show normally it's a decent breakfast option. Thanks to the young girl server for her dedication to try to keep the whole restaurant serviced she did amazingly. The kitchen staff could have helped her but chose to hide from the forlorn faces waiting for breakfasts.More

Charged me twice in a credit card error. Have tried to contact these guys every way I can possibly think of - via Facebook, phone calls, emails. No replies. The couple times I got through to the cafe the person said they would "call me...back", and ever since, they've just ignored my calls. So disappointing considering it was a problem on their end rather than mine.More

We found this small little cafe while looking for a lunch spot during a work conference at a nearby Holiday Inn. So glad we stumbled upon it. There were 8 of us who suddenly descended on them. The only employees there were the owner and...the cook. They accepted our big group with grace and a cheerful welcome. The owner was very friendly, sharing advice with us like we were friends. All of us found our food to be fabulous. It was also presented beautifully, like from a higher end restaurant. At the end, the owner graciously did what he could to get us individual receipts so we could be reimbursed by work later. He figured out from our conversations that we were all elementary teachers, and ran a few doors down to a cookie shop and bought a dozen cookies for us to show his appreciation for what we do. What a great business ethic! This is a place to search out, for sure!More

Enjoying a stay in S.F. over New Years we looked for a nearby breakfast spot. After reading some reviews, we chose to take the bus to the restaurant. We waited for a table and watched the food presented to the customers to see what looked...good to order. The price was good, food excellent and the personal friendly staff amazing. The breakfast potatoes crisp and delicious! My order of chicken & waffles was the best I have tasted. The chicken must have been rolled in panko crumbs before frying, it was golden brown and moist on the inside! You must try it. This cozy diner is charming and was a good start for our day.Our servers Edward & Maria were great in their attention to multi-tasking the busy morning customers!More

It’s been a number of years since we visited this café and my dad really wanted to stop in and see his old friends who run the place. Well, we found out they ran the place 2 owners ago but the new owner was quite...nice and I have to say the food was excellent. My dad actually went out of his way to go back a second time while I was at a conference. He really loved the breakfast potatoes!More

Food was delivered by Grubhub, grilled cheese was good as well as the tofu scramble. The vegan taco flight was cold and a little weird.

Me and my husband visited the new village cafe for breakfast when we were on our honeymoon and I am so glad we did. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I can highly recommend the griddle breakfast with the pancakes they...were lovely! I will definitely be recommending the cafe to my friends and family for when we next travel to San Fran. Thanks for having us!More
